EMERGENCY! HELP 1987 300d oil cool need in So CAL area!

Hey guys i was dropping off my gfs brothers car that i just put a new motor in and it had some old tires that seemed fine....long story short they were fine all the way from sacramento to about 5mins from culver city and BAM front driver side tire blew out and took the oil cooler with it (stupid design other than source of cold air) so the thing is i have to be back in Sacramento by tomorrow and he needs his car for work also and now.

anyone have an oil cooler or know or someone who does?

You are going to need to call in to your Job and tell them you may not be in and why.

Or Leave the Car with your Sister and get a Rental Car to Drive home.

A desparate option but you could get on the internet and join one of the Auto Clubs and pick the membership with unlimited Towing.

The oil cooler is supposedly protected by a cover. Is yours missing or did the tire take it out as well?

Looping the line sounds like a solution. If it doesn't get hot out, the engine may not get hot enough for the thermostat in the oil filter housing to open, thus the oil cooler wouldn't be doing anything anyway. The thermostat starts to open at 110C oil temperature and is fully open at 125C oil temperature.

Cheapest way would be to leave the car, take a bus home, and come back in a week with a new oil cooler. Another possibility would be to rent a vehicle with a trailer big enough to take the '87.

There is an idea for my next (and first) invention: the emergency MB diesel oil cooler bypass hose connector!!! We all should have one in the trunk.

If you can't find a M-B replacement. go to a hot-rod source (like summit) and make one fit.

That would be tricky to find, there's some auto parts places but nothing that I know of close to Culver City. Sun Valley dismantlers would probably have one but it's a hike if you can time the traffic right.

Ok just an update sorry everyone for not getting back in time but i got the problem solved........a recap though this was a car i had just done a motor swap in .......i had a good motor and bad body so i got this car (bad motor great body).......the cars and motor are my brother in laws not mine on my sisters.

The car had to be in The LA area so he could go to work and also needed to drive to to a meeting 4hrs away.

One of the tires (front driver side) blew and when it did it trash the fender and too out the oil cooler which made the cooler drag on the ground.

I fixed the fender and swapped out the tires but still needed to fix the cooler and this all happened on a sat in culver city. So of course not shops to weld the cooler. I didnt cut the cooler line and bypass the cooler at first because the factory line were fine and are costly. Lucky i have a friend that is selling me the oil cool and a set of line for $45 bux total so im just going to ship them from sacramento to LA and walk him through the swap. I went to Osh hardware and got some steel pipe and clamps to bypass the cooler. It holds and is fine so far so thank you everyone that tried to help but i was not where near a comp when all the replys came in but thank you al again so much.

here are some pix just before the tire blow out.
