turbo retro
Hello all,
I am new to this forum and feeling my way around. I was just scrolling down the list and came across a 1979 blue 240D and the member says it has a VGT Turbo on it. I thought all 240Ds were naturally aspirated. So my question is: Does some company make an after market Turbo for a 240D? Is this really worth installing if there is such a product? I never drove a diesel even before I rebuilt this one. The car was given to me by a friend who did not have the time to work on it. I was working on it for him when he decided to get married and move. So I ended up with the car and a lot of work needed to be done. The more I did the more I had to do. No sense in trying to half build an engine. So everything in it is new except the timing chain, cam, and the crank only needed to be polished. Testimony on how well these engines hold up. The car had about 340,000 when I starting taking it apart. It did have a major front seal leak because the person before used the wrong size keys that fit on each side of the crankshaft to keep it tight. Well I have to say except for taking off from a stand still 0-60 I have never owned a better car. I am now a diesel enthusiast. Still have some bugs to take care of but the engine seems to be running just fine. I have sightly oversized pistons in it 105 mm in place of the 99 mm but if there is a turbo I can install I would like to do this if the price is not off the wall. Thanks and I have plenty of bugs that need to be addressed so I will be back I will post a picture as soon as I can figure out how to do it. bluestein1 |
