Get the ingredients Paul

Greetings Paul,

If they give out the data sheets on their products, grab one. I'd be interested to know what ingredients they add to increase the cetane rate of diesel fuel.

Charles

Charles, it would be enlightening to see the MSDS's on these products. I wonder if anyone has tried the Rotella DFC. Just spotted it at Wal-Mart but it seemed pretty expensive; I believe they said to use a full bottle (~$6) with each tankful. More than Redline DFC, if I read the bottle correctly. (I didn't buy any.) BTW, Pep Boys did have the Redline Water Wetter on sale for less than $5.

PS additives

I think you will find that they make at least 3 products. All are readily availabl here in MI. They have the regualr Power Service in the white bottles. Then there is the 911 in the red bottle, this stuff is said to actually re-liquify gelled fuel. Lastly is what they call a "power cleaner" . I assume this is simialr to Howes brand.(meaner power cleaner)

I can find it at most truck stops, Wally-world, and Meijer. In fact many gas stations that sell diesel carry the smaller size jugs.

I made a trip to Manchester, Tenn. to pick up a Mercedes that my buddy bought on ebay this weekend. I left at 11:00 a.m. Sunday and got back to Mi at 1 pm on Monday. I would have made better time but had to mess with U-haul to rent a car carrier. For those who are interested...if you want to rent a hauler from U-haul, don't tell them that you are hauling a Mercedes!! They will tell you that it's too heavy for their tow dolly and tooo long for their car hauler.. Instead tell them that you are hauling a 1978 Impala. Now I know that a '82 300 SD will fit with 10" to spare!

cheapest place I found fuel was in Kentucky ( drove my pickup) and that don't surprise me a bit as that was the cheapest state to buy fuel in when I was driving truck too. Most places premium diesel was .91 to .95 in Kentucky. Tenn was mostly around a buck to $1.10. Indiana and Mi. of course still want between $1.15 and $1.35. I wish I had thought to throw in a couple of drums, I still had plenty of power left in the truck and could have brought home some extra fuel!! Tom

Charles. I have not had a chance to take a close look at it, but I notice they have spec sheets for all their products on their website, + you can order the MSDS sheets.

While talking about running deisel in the winter gelling and whatnot, has anyone had any luck running pure kerosene? It will burn quite well in diesel engines but does anyone know how it would effect longevity of these engines? mercedes specifically.

The owner's manual says to only use kerosine as a last resort to help thin out gelled diesel. It says to add only a certain amount to your tank if winterized diesel is not available in your area. So I doubt very much they want you to run oure kerosine through the engine.

What would happen if you ran half/all the bottle of the Power Service stuff in one tank? (not as if I'd do it, just wondering)

I have the bottle sitting in my back seat unused since I've been using the Redline DFC the last couple of fill ups.

PS is super

Hi
You asked about PS additive. I live in The Black Hills of SD. The last few days it has been really cold here. I had a full tank (35-gal) of #2 and I put in PS.
It was -15 yesterday plus the wind chill was about -35. I had it pluged in for about an hour before I fired it up. It started right up and never missed a lick. It set in the parking lot at work all day, and last night it fired right up and came home with out any problem at all. I saw some gas cars on the road to work that were sitting beside the road.
The PS additive does just what it says. YOu won't be sorry if you use it.
Thats my 2 cents worth.
Paul

Except for......

"You won't be sorry for using it...."

Maybe. I know a guy that runs a local diesel specialty place (Bosch Certified If you want to know) and they totally warn against Power Service..He said in older diesels (and some newer) the PS has agents that will attack the rubber parts of the IP. They recommend StanaDyne engine treatment. Does the same thing as Power Service. I have used both, power service (in one tank) then a tank of nothing, then stanadyne in one tank. Power service gives me about 2 MPG extra, stanadyne does about 2.5 - 3 MPG.

It's a little more $$, but still cheaper than rebuilding your IP.

Here is the shop I use. Stateline Diesel, Edwardsburg MI, 269-663-8571

Also, it isn't just them, several Indie truckers I know refuse to use Power Service as well.

Just my $.02
