Will this 93 500E steering wheel fit on 87 300TD?

Just wondering if any of you know if the later model steering wheels will fit on my 87 300TD? I believe either the shaft or ring size changed at some point. The one pictured is from late 1992.

I like the look much more than the bulky one on there now.....not very sporty!

I just installed a leather steering wheel from a 1990 300E on my '87 300D Turbo (W124, OM603). It was a perfect match, identical. The one in your pictures looks different, especially the back view. The older wheels have a set of four rings that connect the horn and airbag to carbon brushes in the steering column. I do not see these rings in your second photo.

Good to know! Glad I just lost the bid on ebay for it.

I think this is the one you are referring to that WILL fit, right?

The one you have is already a nice upgrade from the original '87 wheel.

Yes, that looks like mine. The leather one came from a '90 300E (with leather option, it had leather seats, too) at Windsor (N. Calif.) 'Pick and Pull.' They charged me $15.49 plus their usual environmental fee and sales tax for the wheel. I don't know if they knew or cared that it was leather; I just held it up and said "steering wheel." They didn't actually touch it and seemed much more interested in the air bag and other more expensive items I was also purchasing.

I have the '93 wheel on my '87 300TDT, works and looks great. Better than the plastic bus-wheel from '87, you'll of course need the airbag also.

Plastic bus-wheel is a great way to describe it !!!

$16 is an awesome price....with the airbag? If I can find wheel and airbag for $75 or so that would be great!

The trick is finding a used one with the leather in great condition, many I've seen are decent but not really nice.

Of the two leather wheels I saw that day, one was ratty and had an aftermarket cover, the other was perfect (guess which one I bought).

The air bag was $39.99 and the Sensor assembly or "ignitor" (lives on the transmission hump in front of the ashtray) was $15.49. So that's about $72 for the entire package.
