Saw a 220D F/S in San Antonio yesterday...

Took my aunt to eat Mexican food at Los Barrios yesterday evening, and on the way back to Alamo Heights saw a green '67(?) 220D for sale at small corner lot (AML Motors / ALM Motors??) on the corner of Basse and San Pedro. It was dusk but I stopped and briefly looked it over. Exterior was an emerald like green; paint was rough, but body looked straight. Rust at rockers, especially near drivers door. Seals around windshields/windows were dried out. Chrome and hood star in tact. Interior was marginal to decent. Car was unlocked but I couldn't find a hood latch; only later did I realize maybe it didn't even have one inside, and the latch was around the grill. New Michelin tires. Why I'm posting this is that while looking for the hood latch, I spied a red expandable folder on the passenger floorboard. There wasn't much light but it was literally stuffed with receipts, and a hand written maintenance log. I only saw one owner's name on all of the receipts I looked at; a few of the invoices were dated from the '70s, so maybe it was a one-owner car. From what I could tell, the car had been well maintained; the hand written maintenance log indicated mileage in the 330,000 range, I believe.

If someone in or near San Antonio is looking for one, you might be able to get this one for a decent price; it was by far the oldest car on the lot. Most other cars were newer MBs or Lexus sedans with mileage too high to make it onto the dealer's used car lot. It was rough, but looked like it had been loved and still had some pride--it was holding its own among the E320s and LS400s. The price was not indicated on the car.

Actually AML Motors was the name of the lot. Los Barrios is where I ate dinner! Google search shows # to be (210) 737-0501. The price wasn't listed on the car.

99% sure it was a manual. Dark inside the car and couldn't see if A/C controls were on dash, nor could I get the hood up to see if there was an A/C compressor. Had original radio-noticed that. I didn't check it out that thoroughly; it was getting dark, the lot was closed, and I don't think they meant to leave the doors unlocked. I kept expecting a German Shepard to leap out at me.

Thanks for the additional info. Does Basse cross San Pedro above I-410, or below it? (I'm remembering north) I worked with a firm that had a store @ San Pedro & El Mio many years ago. I may stop by and check it out - for nostalgia sake - but the rust as described puts me off.

^San Pedro and Basse intersect inside (or below) the loop. Dealership has those little flags attached to posts; they say AML Motors.

The rust put me off too; before I saw it I was thinking of offering them $900 just for kicks. It might be an OK driver for someone, but if looks matter to the buyer, they're going to be spending $3-5k, especially considering the condition of the front and real windshield seals. I'm not really sure the car is worth that kind of money.

The service records impressed me though, and distinguished the car. Someone had obviously cared for (and about) it.
