Have to sell the MB.

The wife says I have too many cars.

I need to keep the Volvo 240 wagon for my side business so the Benz has to go.

I am trying my best to delay the sale but I wanted to get your opinions on a number of things.

1. The a/c is shot so I will wait until the fall to sell it.
2. The paint is faded (but original) and the clear coat is gone. Zero rust on the car. Should I bother to Maaco Paint it before the sale?
3. The car is a 1990 350sdl but with a rebuilt 300sdl engine and trans. odo says 360k but the engine went in at 280k
4. I have all paperwork since birth.
5. It is basically Mercedesshop.com-maintained.
6. Mobil 1 oil used in the winter. Oil/filter changed every 3k

I am thinking of asking $3-4k for it. Am I in the ballpark on the price?

I'll post pics later today

300SDL engine with #14 or newer head? .96 or .97 IP and injectors?

Price is probably okay for someone who knows if the suspension is up to snuff but will seem to a random buyer high in light of miles, paint and no AC. How's the leather? Seat pads still doing their job?

it's the newer head.

also, i'll be installing new shocks probably in the next week. i had already purchased them prior to the wife's mandate to sell. might as well put them in.

Just make sure to include "easily goes 500k miles without any maintenance" and you'll sell it no problem.

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

I wouldn't paint it. Most people assume painted cars have secrets, whereas a faded solid car speaks to its authenticity.

I would ask a high price, and if it doesn't sell you can try the old "Gee honey I guess the market is kaput. Let's wait til things turn around!"

I'm headed that way. I may have to 'grease' things a little with some jewelry!

I also recommend NOT to paint it, faded, original paint is better than new paint, a big red flag goes up when I see a repaint. Whatz he trying to hide, not to mention the cost.

how many cars have you got? Just two on your sig.

Tell her the more cars you own, the less that are out there being driven. Since you can only drive one at a time, therefore, its your environmental duty to collect vast numbers of cars to reduce vehicular emissions.

Let me know if this works.

I only have two but she has to replace her current "uses-a-quart-every- 300 miles" piece of junk 2003 Accord (really!). She initially wanted an SUV but to compromise (and to make the figures work), she agreed to get a Civic and I have to get rid of the Benz.

Makes me wonder if I am being played here. Perhaps she wanted the Civic all along!

When she was a kid, she wanted a kitten. So initially, she asked her parents for a horse, then "let" them give her a cat instead.

from what you describe, probably. You have to admire the skill of how its being done though.

A brand new civic or a used one?

Sounds like when it comes time to sell, you should let her do the negotiating with the buyer.
