Drifting 300TD

via autoblog. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/26/video-well-you-dont-see-a-classic-diesel-mercedes-e-class-wag/

Would love to turn my 240D into a wolf in sheeps clothing like this beast. I'm guessing this is NOT an OM617.

Probably not an OM617,

But if it is, it's seriously stout. What can the bottom end of a 617 handle, output-wise?

These guys are Finnish so I'm guessing it's one heavily massaged om603. The header says scania turbo. Could that mean they shoehorned some big diesel truck engine?

It also says its a E63 , thats a 6.3 ltr V8, probably with a decent turbo on it, maybe a supercharger. A 6.9 or V12 would probably fit under the hood of one of them.

I didn't get that from the article. Also that thing sounds and smokes like a turbodiesel.

Yeh, it certainly appears to be a diesel.

Where do they find 12 year olds with enough disposable income to build those things?

Yes I think it looks cool, but couldn't they get around the track faster without sliding?

Much faster, apparently that's not the point of this "sport."

I wonder how many tires they go through. Seems like once around the track is about all they'd make it. It's defintely a diesel with all the black smoke.

Edit: Just watched it again, and at the top of the video in the beginning it says Diesel Mercedes w123 with SCANIA turbine. Not sure what that is.

the article states how cool it is they did this in a diesel mb wagon, and wishes to see "Now, if we could only see this video remade starring the 2011 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon..."
it does not say the wagon IS the above vehicle...
