I have had good and bad expeience at Sears. The bad- Last year I called told them the tires I wanted and explained it was an emergincy situation. I have done business with them for over 10 years. They told me they had the tires in stock and a price. I explained that the last time I bought the same tire it was special order and he said he would do a visual confirmation that he had them.
After waiting on the phone he cam back and said yes I have them here and he would hold them since I was on their computer for all my cars tires and batteries. I drove over and waited as they had a full shop. When they got to me I was told that no they did not have them and had not had them and that they would be a special order. I was pissed ( something that happens very rarely) and asked to speak to the manager. He came and apologized but that was it I explained that I even hadd the name of who I spoke with but to no avail. I did not expect them free or anything but something. Anyway I ended up going to "Just Tires" after setting up an appointment for the next a.m. I showed up on time ( they confirmed the time with me first thing in the a.m. with a phone call) and then waited for 4 hours to have 2 tires mounted and balanced. I asked for the manager who said it was first come first served. I asked why they had a website that allowed me to set an appointment and then have a rep call me int he a.m. to confirm the appt if they could not keep the appointment ( ala' Seinfeld car rental episode) Anyway I started a thread last week on my battery experience with "Interstate" at a local dealer for them ( Hogan and Sons in South Riding VA) The Interstate people were great and so were the people at Hogan's. On a side note the 4 hour time frame for checking the battery is because they will "Deep Cycle " the battery to see if it has a bad cell etc. It sucks but I can understand it.

I've used Sears for Die-Hard batteries and Die-Hard work shoes - yes, work shoes. They had Die-Hard black tradesman shop shoes that were 100% warranted for a free pair, should anything go wrong with them. Well, the soles wear out and crack open so I returned for some shoes with the receipt. No problem, new pair. When that pair wore out I again went to get a replacement pair, but they said said since I didn't have a receipt, they couldn't replace them. I asked the sales clerk where I could have bought them if not for the Die-Hard labeling on the soles? She called the upstairs and talked to someone, and I got another free replacement pair.
I think they should make it clear that you only get one replacement, but they don't so I got another pair by being insistent. I love their batteries and Road Handler radials. I even got my last MB 300SD aligned at the NTW across the Interstate from them, which is owned by Sears, if they're still in business. Having a receipt is key when dealing with them I found.

As for tools I have never had an issue. I bring it in and they let me grab a new one. Have not done it in awhile but hope the current economy does not make it more difficult.

The cost of the unlimited warranty was paid for by the original purchaser. It is fully transferrable to all subsequent owners.

That's quite true - they're very insistent on receipts. I had no problem bringing them back the first time, but to the extent the soles cracked-open on the second pair, I realized they were selling somewhat shoddy products, so I felt like they owed me another pair too. They didn't say they weren't warranted - the second pair that is. When I saw that the third pair's nice thick garage-type crepe soles split open, then I knew not to buy shoes from them. Back to Red Wing brand I will go for rugged work shoes/boots. I just like to get my money's worth, something that seems difficult when trading with Sears. That's all....

Back in the 1970s I worked at a temporary job in the Globe Union Battery Factory. They made Die Hard Batteries and just about any name Battery back then that you could think of.
So the Quality of the Battery is going to depend on if the Store you buy a Battery from is selling the Quality product and not the cheapie one. My job there was just a Grunt type job. While they were rebuilding there Conveyer Belt System I picked up Batteries, put them on a Roller Conveyer and pushed them to where the needed to go and unloaded them

They probably didn't ask or need to have YOU there for 4 hours, so that was your choice.
You could have dropped it off and gone and done something else. I'm just saying.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that he didn't really have much choice in whether or not he wanted to stay there while they decided what they wanted to do.
