I've used Sears for Die-Hard batteries and Die-Hard work shoes - yes, work shoes. They had Die-Hard black tradesman shop shoes that were 100% warranted for a free pair, should anything go wrong with them. Well, the soles wear out and crack open so I returned for some shoes with the receipt. No problem, new pair. When that pair wore out I again went to get a replacement pair, but they said said since I didn't have a receipt, they couldn't replace them. I asked the sales clerk where I could have bought them if not for the Die-Hard labeling on the soles? She called the upstairs and talked to someone, and I got another free replacement pair.

I think they should make it clear that you only get one replacement, but they don't so I got another pair by being insistent.

I love their batteries and Road Handler radials. I even got my last MB 300SD aligned at the NTW across the Interstate from them, which is owned by Sears, if they're still in business.

Having a receipt is key when dealing with them I found.

People used to buy broken Craftsman tools at the Swap Meet (Flea Markets in other places) and turn them in and get new ones.
The same with Shoes; they can be bought at used at Thrift Stores, Garage Sales, and so on.
That is why the want the receipt.

As for tools I have never had an issue. I bring it in and they let me grab a new one. Have not done it in awhile but hope the current economy does not make it more difficult.

Back in the 1970s I worked at a temporary job in the Globe Union Battery Factory. They made Die Hard Batteries and just about any name Battery back then that you could think of.
So the Quality of the Battery is going to depend on if the Store you buy a Battery from is selling the Quality product and not the cheapie one.

My job there was just a Grunt type job. While they were rebuilding there Conveyer Belt System I picked up Batteries, put them on a Roller Conveyer and pushed them to where the needed to go and unloaded them

The cost of the unlimited warranty was paid for by the original purchaser. It is fully transferrable to all subsequent owners.

I have. I had a broken item that was part of a set. Since it was only sold as a set, Sears refused to "break a set" to replace the item. So they insisted that I bring in the entire set for a "complete" exchange. When I did that, they said they could only replace the broken item. In the final analysis, I got what I should have received on the first trip. And Sears still wound up with a "broken" set. So it seem like the "bring in the entire set" requirement was nothing more than a tactic to discourage the customer and hopefully avoid having to honor the warranty.

Another time, Sears was having a sale on all open stock, individual wrenches. I went to buy a large adjustable wrench and it rang up at the normal price. Sears claimed that is wasn't included in the sale because it was adjustable, and therefore was not "individual."

Sears seems to have an approach to customer service that is unique.

That's quite true - they're very insistent on receipts. I had no problem bringing them back the first time, but to the extent the soles cracked-open on the second pair, I realized they were selling somewhat shoddy products, so I felt like they owed me another pair too. They didn't say they weren't warranted - the second pair that is. When I saw that the third pair's nice thick garage-type crepe soles split open, then I knew not to buy shoes from them. Back to Red Wing brand I will go for rugged work shoes/boots. I just like to get my money's worth, something that seems difficult when trading with Sears. That's all....

Not autozone. They do a quick 3-5 minute test with their machine, then swap if it comes out bad. Just had one replaced a few days ago that way.

No more! Yesterday my battery was died, called the AAA, started the car and went to Sears, this was a 64 month battery and it passed away right at 18 month, the warranty called for full exchange in the first 36 months and prorated exchange thereafter.

Sears said that the policy has changed, they now must fully recharge the battery to make sure the problem is not elsewhere, I ended up spending total of 4 hours in the store waiting, finally they came and informed me that the batter was no good, by then I was sufficiently pissed off to tell the store manager that you have just lost one lifelong Sears customer, never again.

4 hours? I was at Sears last week for a battery test and it took them only 45 minutes to fully charge and test it. This was at the location on Fannin though. Where were you?

They probably didn't ask or need to have YOU there for 4 hours, so that was your choice.

You could have dropped it off and gone and done something else.

I'm just saying.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that he didn't really have much choice in whether or not he wanted to stay there while they decided what they wanted to do.
