REmoving fuel tank on w116

Any pointers? I know it comes out through the trunk, but any other info besides this? Anyone have a pictorial I can peruse? "Search" yielded few results other than people telling other people they needed to remove the tank.

Thanks in advance.

Why do you think it needs to come out?

There is a metal panel that is removed through the trunk. This will reveal the tank.
If you take out the first aid kit box, there is the gas gauge sensor, unplug it and if you unscrew the tree from the tank, you can pump the fuel out from there.
Open the gas door, remove the cap. Take out the rubber neck seal.

Take the back seat out, base has two buttons. back has two bolts, i think.
There is a large round plastic plug to remove. Fuel line disconects behind it. be sure to have tank empty! Your fuel screen is here too. Replace it before replacing tank.

Now unbolt and remove tank.

Thanks wodnek.
I am considering removing the tank and thoroughly cleaning it. I plan to fire the car up for the first time since my purchase. There is almost no fuel in the tank, which would lead me to believe that what is in the tank is probably a thick layer of sludge by now. I figure that by taking the tank out, cleaning it along with the pickup screen and both of the filters as well as blowing out the lines, I should be set to go in regards to the fuel delivery. I then have to bleed the system, but I am acquainted with that "little" job.
Just trying to establish a baseline. I suppose I could fill up with fuel and put in some bio-bor or similar and then change the filters a few times, but I'm not sure that cleaning the tank may be quicker and more thorough.
Any other thoughts?

Your reasons seem sound to me.
