How many 1987 wagons????
How many 1987 wagons do members here own.For a car that few of were imported there seems to be many members here that have them.
put me down for one Don |
Put me down for one in mint condition, with 25K miles, with the third seat too!
Oh yeah, for under $3K. |
ditto mint condition on mine!

|
OK thats 4 add em up as we go along Don:)
|
I have one. Fixing rusty rockers. Runs great.
|
One, rust-free TN car.
Another question might be how many of them are not white. |
Mine is tan. not white.
|
I have the very basic model, 250TD, no sls! Daily drive work horse. Its a bit rough, gold-green color, import from Alistair's land. it does have rear seat head rests.
|
Does anyone know how many were produced? US or worldwide?
|
I have a near mint 87 300TD, I say almost because I have the interior gutted.

Ive got a White one in great shape, far from mint, but rust free!
Vstech, yours may be Mint, but it is a bit smokey...how well has that come out? |

I saw some "official" numbers of US import of 124 diesel wagons. It was something like 2,200 or 2,600.
|
I've got a gold or smoke silver one. I don't even know the color name. Its the same as VZtechs though. Mine is Red intererior. Far from mint but works great. I need a red door panel for right rear door if anyone has one :) #14 head with only 133,000 or so according to odometer. Indiana car. I should be set for the next 50 years.
|
I have one and it's not white, It is light Ivory or whatever MB calls the light yellow color.
|
I just had a vision of converting a gasser W124 wagon to a diesel by way of a 606 turbo engine and a 5-speed manual. A W124 gasser wagon should be easier to find than a diesel model. I'll have sweet dreams now.

Have one... though its waaaaaaay out here in the Philippines. :)
|
Put me down for a white non-mint one. I hope to have it back to mint soon though.

Mine's a '94 import from japan. 124193 603960 6cyl turbodiesel. Paid a lot for it, but expect it to last through several financial meltdowns!

520,000 miles and still going....#14 head

my #14 only has 189K on it...

303,000 thereabouts

I am fairly sure that my white with blue interior was probably a mobile tech vehicle for the dealer. The only documents that came with it identified it as sold by the dealer as previously owned in the early 90s, but I hear that many of the white with blue were used as dealer vehicles. On the other hand, why would the dealer order a model with the rear jump seat for their use?
It is hardly mint and the paint job done sometime before I got it was terrible and is quickly failing. I do have a full set of replacement seats though along with some nice engine upgrades -- alternator, #22 head, afterglow. I would love to put a five speed in it... |
I have one, Blue Black/Palomino with 212000 on the clock. #22 head. Runs great with no rust (just moved to Wisconsin from Georgia so that may change).

Mine is diamond blue with black leather interior that is indicative of the family car it was. No third seat. Not rust free, but not bad at all for a NY car. Peeling clearcoat. About 145,000 miles on #14. Bought it from original owner's son. You guys might not find this as interesting as I did, but I have the original sales invoice and she paid just under $46,000 for the car.

Mine is diamond blue also, with orion gray interior (tex). I've been looking for a gray leather interior because I want a late-leather interior and I've never seen it in black, if it looks good I already have a late black leather interior, ... |

Mine was white over palomino leather. I sold it to a PP member in 2004 with ~145K. He offered it perhaps a year ago - I was seriously tempted to buy it back. My favorite practical car I've owned. (Can't really compare it to an AMG - one is transportation, one is a toy.) - JimY |
IIRC the sedans far out-number the estates/wagons. I too read something like 1500, probably here, thought that the number was for 603 turbo wagons world-wide (many markets got the 603na), ... would love to know the real number.
My feeling is the same. I've had piles of Mercedes sedans, only had one wagon (a gas 4matic). I've had many cars that are faster, better looking, more nimble, haul more, etc., etc. so the sedan nor cab really no longer appeal to me as a classic nor a daily (coupe is still pretty special IMO). Two things have really appealed to me in the 124 and they are the 603 turbo's gasser-like performance and practicality while being a diesel, and the unique look of the wagon while also being surprisingly versitile. So, ... a 603 turbo 124T is the culmination of all that I've found dear in the 124, ... Some day I might get motivated enough to build a 606 turbo 124 coupe, but that's another direction entirely. |
I have one!
|
one with lots of rust but runs like a scalded dog
|
I had one back in the 90's..much more trouble with it than any car I ever owned but I LOVED that 6 cylinder power! Air conditioning, electrical gremlins and rear self leveling suspension were just a few of the issues. That baby would cruise all day at 100 mph if you could get away with it.

Pretty much sums it up. My wife drove one from 93 'till 05. Probably her favorite car, ever.Sold it to my neighbor when it had 265 on the clock, and last I heard, it was well over 300K. Did the later head swap, Hella euros, upgraded stereo, CLK wheels... She was Astral Silver with a blue tex interior. I replaced her with a low mileage, mint 95 E320, Brilliant Silver with black interior. Lots of people never noticed the replacement, thought the 95 was still the old 87. In retrospect, I wish we'd kept her. Jim |
So far i count 21,im sure there are more. When you add one please update the number so i dont have to keep going back to total them up.Thats quite a number for a car that was sold here in limited numbers, i too have heard/read the number 1500 imported but have no way to confirm it.Perhaps one of the MB techs on here can find the true number for us.

it's too bad that the vin isn't specific to the TD... it'd be as simple as checking the last 4 digits of the vin...
mine reads 3800ish... |
oh, I have a customer with a white/palomino one. so that's 22 confirmed. (I hope to get it from her, she wants my 83TD...)

Pictures for Jeff (Babymog)

Jeff,
Here are some pictures. I tried to combine body and interior so you can see how the black looks with the blue. Only realized now that I was a little too far away in the first two pictures. Since I've got the logistics taken care of (camera found, battery charged, how to post pictures, etc.), let me know if there are any better shots I could take for you. Thanks Roy. I think I like it, now I wish my '93 black interior were a wagon interior, ... I think I'd swap it in. I guess I can always swap in the front half, re-dye the rest until I find a black leather wagon interior, ... which is probably very rare.
