Timing Chain Question

I am getting some conflicting readings when checking timing stretch. I have checked it using the two ways listed in this thread.

The visual check shows it to be 3* ATDC. When checking with the dial indicator it showed 42*BTDC when I got 2mm of lift. I checked it twice but must be doing something wrong.

did you adjust the valve to remove all play in the valve? nevermind, nothing out of adjustment will throw it off that much...
are you certain you are on the correct valve? the 2nd valve spring from the front of the engine?

OK, I got it. I was looking at .002" of valve lift when I saw 42*. When the dial indicator gets to .080" I am at 11* ATDC. Which is just where I should be with a 05 cam code.

Now I need to check IP timing. This thing runs horrible and has an obvious miss at idle.

isolate which pot has the miss, by loosening the injector line nuts and listen for a lack of change. then swap that injector for another one, and see if the miss moves. if so, get the injector tested and balanced. if not...
