it looks like we skipped over your post, sorry.
that amount of oil is likely coming from the oil cooler lines... inspect them well...

I have an 85 300D KaliKar and I'm having lots of oil splatters under the hood. After a good engine cleaning I notice:
  • oil all around the rubber tube fitting on top of the valve cover
  • oil on the bottom side of the hood over the air cleaner (remember, my air cleaner is right behind the passenger-side headlight). This is heavy enough that when I open the hood I get oil drips coming down from the hood.
  • after a wipe-off the oil is back just as badly after a couple of drives.
And I keep reading about oil separators, etc. On my car, there is a tube running from the top of the valve cover to the top of the air cleaner. Along the way there is a T-fitting with a branch running to the intake of the turbo. That's it, no other devices of any kind connected to this line. Has someone removed something from my car?

The oil cooler lines are on the left side, and the air filter in on the right side. he mentioned the oil is on the VC and on the top of the filter. that does seem like a excessive amount of oil.

One thing could be the rubber connectors on the VC and the "T" hose could be all hard and cooked if they are the originals. might need to be replaced.

From that amount of oil, seems like there is too much pressure coming out as Blowby. maybe some other problem.

Here is a picture of an 85 Kali car. scroll down a few pictures to see engine.

My 1985 300D (Pics, finally)

my 85 was a Kali car, and i remember the oil that use to collect in the bottom of the filter. made a mess. also the Kali Kar does not have the oil drain drilled into the pan for the oil return.

I have seen several pictures of the oil seperator used on the 83 240D added to some other 123 OM617 engines by some of the forum members.
