I have serious doubts whether the 126 will make 200kph/125mph straight and level with a stock 617. I'd sooner believe about 107mph sustained. I'm pretty sure that the SDL is good for close to 200kph.

Not sure if you were referring to me or not, but I was talking about the w116, not the w126.

Less weight, still a lot of air to push with that hp.

I'd think an 85 300SD would be the quickest of the 5 cylinders. The W126 has less drag then the W116, and the taller axle ratio would help with top speed I'd think.

Original owner of my 77 300d claimed he hit 105mph on I-25 between Raton and Santa Fe. That's NA and short gearing.

Is this anything like "ridiculous" speed? This might explain why we never hear about this on tv. ....LOL.

LOL. yep, from time to time someone mentions that and I chuckle. Kind of like all sneakers are Nikes and all portable music devices at one time were all walkmans.

this is not exactly true...

300 is a class of mercedes. true, in our us D/SD/SDL the 300 generally pertains to the engine displacement in liters. but the 240D with 3.0L engine is a 240series, even with the 300 motor. it's in the accouterments, of the chassis.
the "300" has power everything, upgraded interior, and climate control, sunroof etc...
in the E series, they still called it a 300 because of the draw of the vehicle.
calling it a 250 E turbodiesel would not have sold as well here in the us.
also, the 300SD in 92 I think, was actually a 350 engine, rebadged because of the rodbender stink... or to get more nostalgia of the 300SERIES!

Cursing Speed: The speed you were going when you noticed the flashing lights behind you.

I was going to fix my typo but I think I'll leave it now...

Cursing speed is when the person in the explorer in front of you is going 20 on the onramp, then floors it when they get to the end... but your old slow diesel is now getting run over by a semi
