What is wrong with me? Could the trunk seal really be this difficult?

Hi everyone, I have been searching for what seems like hours to find help with my dilemma. I replaced my completely worn out trunk seal with a cheap aftermarket one (Uro I think) earlier this year, and it still leaks, plus it allows water to get into the metal channel underneath and it is starting to rust. (I could have installed it the wrong direction.)

Anyway, I now have a new genuine Mercedes seal and want to take the time to properly prep the channel and then install it RIGHT. However, after searching the Mercedes service manual and doing an exhaustive search here, I cannot figure out which direction the rubber seal goes in the channel. As far as I am concerned, it can go in there 4 different ways. I am sure I will feel like a complete moron once it is explained to me, but if someone out there knows, please help.

Thanks,
Cory
