sluggish 85 300 SD

My 85 300 SD is sluggish on take off and a little low on top end which is about 80 mph.Ive read that my problem might be in the egr valve and aldi valve.I would like to disconnect the EGR can I just put a BB in the hose or do I have to plate it?I did notice that a vacuum line at the back of the intake is unhooked and stud is gone do i need a special stud here with a hole in it?Or can I use a reg. metric stud to reattach it.The car also makes a whistleing at start of acceleration and the dissappears as rpm increases I think coming from the turbo.Attached are 2 pictures of the vacuum line that is loose at back of intake.Ive read that there are some bolts that should checked to make sure they are not blocked shut.Any help greatly appreciated.

That's your problem. It's not a vacuum line, it's a pressure line going to the boost controller. You'll need the bolt part of the banjo bolt to fix it. You're not building any pressure in your intake manifold with that hole open to atmosphere. It's making your whistling sound as the pressurized air is escaping.

Someone will chime in and tell you to do a search..

You can put a BB on the EGR if you want. If your talking about the line I think you are then you need a bolt with a hole in it to reattach the line. You can rev the engine from under the hood and hear the turbo if it's working. ummm... you can adjust the alda(not aldi silly), do a search.

Thank you Kerry I finally got that special banjo bolt that attaches the pressure line to the rear of the intake that goes to the boost controller.Bolt with copper seal washer was $15 from the M.B. dealer delivered to my house.Made a big differance in the pick up on this car it will cruise at 85mph now no problem.Next thing I'm going to do is block off the EGR with a plate hope to see a differance with that also. Thanks again guys this website is the greatest puts that M.B. mechanic with 25 yrs. experiance that I was paying $100/hr. to shame.

Once you do this, go ahead and remove all the vacuum components associated with EGR and ARV.

Vacuum problem

and,

EGR Delete/Remove

Made a world of difference in my 85.

This is your problem. In my 82 wagon when I bought it that same line was broken. The car was sluggish. Though it was my first MB diesel so I had no idea how it was supposed to drive. You'll need a banjo bolt. It's a hollow bolt with holes in it that coincide with the banjo fitting on the end of the hard line. Find a local junkyard, you should be able to find that bolt in any diesel with a trubo from the late 70's to mid 80's should have them. 116, 123, or 126.

Edit: Should have read the whole post, you've already got it solved. Though I'm glad I had the right prognosis.
