190d no shutoff
86 2.5 NA - 110k relative decent cond
The car has not given me any issues until today when it would not shut off with the key. This happened after I changed fuel filter and oil. Also I removed the air filter box to check the air filter. I actuated the (antishudder?) throttle looking flap while I was in there, just checking out how the linkage worked. I replaced a blown fuse in the box in front of the fuse box. That's all i touched. Did a couple quick searches but its hard to find pertinent info. shut off valve tested good with the push-down-lever-cover-nipple-release-lever method. No vacuum lines visually disconnected or broken, not sure if I looked in all the right places... any ideas? thanks |

I figured it was a vacuum line somewhere, is there a typical place it disconnects/breaks after doing what I did?
I seemed to have found vacuum diagrams for every vehicle but mine, anyone have a link or pdf? thanks in advance |

check the brown line to the SOA trace it back. or look in the general area. (SOA is Shut off Actuator, the thing with the handy STOP button)

How's your vacuum reading out of your pump? I went forever not realizing that my pump wasn't pulling anywhere near enough vac. I'm in the middle of changing mine this weekend.

I'll see if I can get in there and check it out. Is there any possibility that I damaged the anti shudder actuator when I turned the flap by hand?

You probably will have to pull the air box to find the disconnected vac line. The biggest drawback I have found with the 190D's is that almost all of the regular (simple) replacement stuff is behind the airbox and under the intake manifold. I began, years ago, to keep a manifold gasket or two on the shelf. Usually saves a lot of aggravation to just pull the intake so that you can see, and access, all of the goodies below.

not to hijack the mans thread but::: jaoneil has a brilliant suggestion. i never thought of it before, but its true that the intake box is always in the way. and its hard to detach from the manifold, so hey, take off the mainfold.
I would add however that i broke the ear off an intake once because there was a little piece of old gasket behind my new gasket, so be neat! |
