Is there a band adjustment for reverse?

Recently acquired a 300CD, with probably 170K on it, which was donated to a local charity because reverse was gone.

I took a chance and bought the car because the trans behaved normally in drive. Besides , the car was a screaming deal ( I am full of terrible guilt at the price I paid...Oh woe is me)
When put into reverse, you can feel it sort of grab and creep. If you add throttle, it slips.

Car zips along beautifully on freeway, 70-80, really nice engine.

Any thoughts?????
