560sel 300sd swap

I have a 1991 560 sel and want to put a 300sd motor in it. Is this as simple as an engine tranny swap or is there something else I should be aware of? Thanks

you'll need both cars side by side. to fetch parts. and I'm sure some creative welding skills will come in handy..

Different wheel base, so might find that neither drive shaft is the right length and the one that is too long needs to be shortened and rebalanced.

Different load at the front, so you might find a new set of springs is in order.

The 560 has the hydraulic rear, right? Does the 300SD head have a similar pump present?

radiator necks look similar so the hoses go to the right place?

Know how to use a soldering iron to set up the glow plugs?

Fuel tank need to be swapped over?

Neither driveshaft will work. You'll have to have one made. I don't think one from a 300 SDL will work either.

Springs are the same between all W126s (that don't have armor plating), the only difference is the pads on top. The 617 is actually heavier then the alloy V8 as I recall. 300SDs had aluminum hoods to help keep the weight down.

The auto leveling rear suspension was optional on the 560 as I understand it. Get the tandem power steering pump from a W124 or similar if the car is so equipped.

Fuel tanks are the same. Just remove the CIS pump. The dissel system won't appreciate 100+ PSI of pressure
