w116 300sd

Own a 1979 300sd. Car was sold out of California, Los Angeles on Figueroa St. to be exact. I've made several calls to dealers including one call to the classic center inquiring on my car being FEDERAL or CA. Initially based on where it was purchased one parts guy said it was CA. Last week I was asked for my vin# by the classic center and it was determined that my car was a Federal(49 state). That was determined by the data card which indicated a 491 option(3 digit) code. The classic center stated that it was a "U.S. version". Can someone here, with their expertise, explain the difference and maybe confirm with MB Classic Center that I am definitely driving around a "federal". I need to purchase the correct rotors and brake pads and do not want to play around or play the guessing game. Greatly appreciate the help

was there a difference in 79 between the two? certainly not in the brakes... is there? I'd think at most a ca would have an egr or something emissions wise... not suspension or anything...

Hmmmm? My 79 300SD does not have an EGR valve. I was under the impression from posts here that none of them did. Perhaps there was a CA version with an EGR valve.

I have a 5/1978 production W116 300SD with 617.950 engine. It is a California car, with documentation and hos no provision for an EGR valve of any kind.

There are 7,000 thousand cars in front of me before I would qualify for thicker pads and thicker rotors. Mb classic center says my vin# corresponds to thinner pads and thinner rotors.

so you mean the later vin and chassis had the thicker rotor, but not yours. yes?
7,000 thousand would be 7million...
does the 116 accept the 126 rotor and caliper upgrade like the 123 does?

Later w116 300sd have thicker brake pads/rotors. I would not quote them on the number 7,000. They just thru that number out to give me an idea when the thicker pads/rotors came around. I don't know about the w126 sharing the brake system but I do know that my car shares the tie rod end assembly.
