Good stuff. If I sent my blower, what would be the cost to refurbish it like this?

How does this differ from the official blower fuse retrofit (strip fuse)?

The strip fuse retrofit was only for W124s.

In a W124, the blower was originally a 25 A fuse in position 12. They decided later they really needed 30 A and the contact points were marginal for the constant load of the big honking blower in a 124. So they did an engineering change to a shock tower mounted 30 A strip fuse holder. After a certain serial # all the 124s got the holder but it was offered for retrofit in the older 124s.

It certainly was not! My blower fuse (#8 iirc) melted down my fusebox, and I did this on my 83. Mounted the fuse to the inner fender under the hood.

I'm a little more mechanically savvy now and would want to solve the root of the problem these days. But I thought that WAS the solution back then.

I'll probably refurb my blower just because (doesn't draw too much currently), and then also protect with more/better fuses.

My old 2003 thread (yes I'm a long timer here though many wouldn't know it. An old mercedesshop guy )

No need to send me the blower, I'll just send you one of these plug and play fuse links for $15. (If your blower is not working properly than that's a problem)

The official fuse strips for the w126 blowers ( and w124 as stated above) effectively removes the fuse from the fuse box. The w123 never had an "official" fuse strip. But basically you keep your original fuse in the fuse box and this just puts another fuse closer in line to the potential problem.

Maybe it's not official but it works just fine on the w123 and installs in a straightforward way. Plus it's accessible.

I like your harness for putting another/smaller/faster blowing fuse closer to the load.

But I like the idea of refurbishing the blower to reduce load anyway. I thought you were doing blower refurbishment...

Best I can do about blower refurbishment is replacing the brushes, and maybe replacing faulty wiring. Or sending you one of the used units I have laying around.

Nice job DV, I think I'll buy another fuse from you again. I'll message you next week when I get back from vacation.
