Model Year Help

My car is titled as a 1985 300TD and have never had reason to think otherwise. I was recently on the phone with the classic center and they said that based no my vin, the car is a 1984. What specific visual differences can I look for to know for sure. My car is also a Euro model, which confuses things even further. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Shane

Nice looking TD, love the blue and the euro lights. Go to the Russian MB Club site and plug in your vin#. That should help..http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng.

since your car is a turbo it may have the taller gearing jn the rear end, forgot the numbers but thats a plus that came with the 85s. My Euro is an 85, manual 5 spd, non turbo but has not got the taller gearing.

the door tag should have a date of manufacture and a date of import... possibly it was made as an 84 year, but imported in 85?

The door tag lists the date of manufacture as December 1984. I spent some time yesterday sorting the vacuum system on the 85 federal wagon I have and the vacuum systems are identical with the exception of the vacuum for the euro headlights. This leads me to believe it is an 85.

The only difference I can think of off hand is the rear end ratio. An '85 will have a 1:2.88. A 84 would have 1:3.46.
Its stamped aft on the driver side of the pumpkin.

82 thru 84 turbo`s will have the 3:07.

300D`s none turbo will have the 3:46

85 300D and Sd will have the 2:88.

Your car having a build date of 12/84, is a 85 model.

In Europe, if a car is made on December 31 1984...it is a 1984.

If it was made Dec 31 2010 it is titled a 2010, unlike the USA that titles by model year.

In Germany they sell their cars by production date.

The Federal car has the switch for the klima relay on the valve cover and the Euro car does not have anything but linkage on the top of the valve cover. Thanks for all of the info!
