Replaced my exhaust manifold gasket, WOW. Huge difference in power. (300D)

So I went down to German Car Service today in Scottsdale, AZ and saw Kenny Hasanoff, whom was recommended to me by a guy at the gas station a few weeks ago with a 1983 300SD. The guy had 416,000 miles on his car and had been taking it to Kenny for a few years. Great shop, good work, fairly priced.

But on to the car.... This 300D has been painfully slow, and since it is my first 300D (I have driven my brothers POS 300D junk heap) I thought it was just the way trap oxidizer cars were. I can't believe how wrong I was.

I had Kenny replace the manifold gasket and the difference is INSANE. I can easily accelerate at highway speeds, the car revs quickly, the turbo spools so well that I can hear it now (I don't have a hood pad). Its like I did massive engine modifications or something, I feel like I am driving a new car.

While the car was apart I had Kenny replace the coolant overflow tank and the bypass hose. The old breather hose seal that connects to the top of the engine was as hard as plastic, so he also replaced the entire breather hose for an extremely fair price, hopefully no more oil spray on my engine.

Here are some pics of the old gasket, the blown out part is the intake, the heavily carbon deposited part of it is the exhaust.

I also included some pics of a 300SD with chrome Bundts that was there. I was told that the guy has upwards of 30,000 dollars into the restoration of this car. The car is a little dusty because the the weather here, but I can definitely see the investment, the paint is perfect (it was a high dollar paint job), the dash is crack free and supple, the car is immaculate. My pictures suck because I was avoiding the license plate, but I had to share.

My 1982 300SD has those style wheels. Never knew that were Bundts. Lil curious if they are rare and sought after. I like them as they stay like new all the time. Mine has the chrome over the wheel wells to and a few other area of OEM chrome stuff I believe. Thanks
