what was the milage? I have an 84 Winabago Lesharo, was a Renault turbo 4 cyl. (same engine you could get in the 84 jeep) and got you about 22 to 23 mpg... I'm in the process of putting a 3.8 supercharge buick engine in it right now.

LOL at the ad. but honestly, thats a bad ass sounding car....

The owner I talked to said he was getting 30mpg. It was sleeker than the LeSharo. A lot of those LeSharo's got converted to Buick V-6's. There was a company in Montana that specialized in the conversions.

I thought it was a pretty good commercial. Wait 10 or 15 years and see what a BMW diesel looks like.

It does open the door for MB or VW to run an ad showing previous BMW diesels sitting in a junkyard while Mercedes diesels or diesel Jettas are still running around.

Maybe it will get more people in this country interested in diesel. Although I doubt it since BMW is dumb on pricing them.

Cool yes, worth the extra $5k to buy up front, the extra maintenance over the gas engines, and than having to spend an extra .30 cents a gallon on fuel, nope. But cool none the less.

In this regard MB owns them, for slightly more than what a 335D stickers for you can get a CDI.

In Germanic culture (at least in some ) it's still permissible to tell someone what you really think, corporations as well. Lets face facts, the C class diesel is LONG overdue in the North American market, especially any class diesel station wagon. Until MB USA answers, the ball is in their court...

--- Holy crap ---- what is with the cube headed half-time characters??? TRON, Apple computer and an Ikea commercial all in one.
I tend to agree. While the 123 reliability is unquestioned, they're not exactly known for their quietness, cleanliness and performance. Sadly many of the ones I see on the road aren't far from the one in the commercial.

And I have no flipping' clue!

I just hope getting more people interested in Diesel's won't give the oil companies an excuse to hike prices due to more demand......then again since when has a legitimate excuse been needed to price gouge!

I was really happy to see a passenger diesel advertised in the US at all. A harbinger of good things to come. Let's keep our fingers crossed for that diesel-electric hybrid E Class!

However, I couldn't believe BMW's X3 commercial. "Designed in America. Made in America." Really? Your selling point for a GERMAN CAR is that it's designed and made in the US? If I'm getting an American car, why do the parts still cost three times as much?
Smooth move, BMW. I'm sure Joe the Plumber can't sell his Chevy fast enough.

Probably a result of some market research about american football fans.

Featuring 5 seconds of a W123 cost BMW $430,000, assuming $2.6 million is the average cost for 30 seconds of Superbowl ad time.

Oil changes cost more, although it won't matter for awhile since BMW includes maintenance for the first 50k miles. Also modern diesels are more complicated than there gas counterparts and are always more expensive to fix.

I laughed.

To me the point is that today's diesels are high performance, not like older diesels which are (more) noisy, (more) smokey and (truly) relatively slow.

If I had that kind of money to spend on a new car I would definately give the BMW a look.

I drove a jetta diesel wagon the other day.

Gassers need oil changes too. The statement was that a diesel 3 Series costs more to maintain than a gasser 3 Series, which doesn't make any sense. Sure, a CR diesel is more complex, but it doesn't need maintenance as often. At least when done right.

(good point about owners of new BMWs though)
