Use of Startron...any advice

I have a full tank of diesel with algae clogging the primary and don't want to drain and clean the tank.
1. Should I just pour the correct amount down the filler neck or mix with some diesel and pour the mixture in?
2. How long should I let it work before changing out the primary and secondary filters?
3. Is the outside temperature a variable in how well this stuff works?
Any other advice?

You may want to drain the tank to get all of the crud out initially...

1. Pour in the proper amount on your next fillup
2. It works as you drive it, just keep adding the stuff as you fill the tank with diesel. Change the filters when they become too plugged up with black crud to really flow anything. You'll want to have several small plastic inline filters on hand at any point, and a good idea to have a couple spin-ons as well.

I guess you could "shock dose" it, put about 1/2 a 12 oz. bottle in it to start with. But I don't know for sure if that would keep you from having to drain the tank. Could try it...

Previous poster is right - buy & keep on hand several primary & secondary filters; you will need them for sure.

I have used Startron before & it works wonders on algae-infested diesel fuel. It may take it a while to purge your tank, but it does work better than anything else I've tried.

I just dumped it in & let it sit over night. Too small a sample size but try it before draining the tank. You haven't much to loose if it doesn't work. Keep a couple sets of fuel filters in the trunk. You may get to change them on the road side but probably not.

Startron is an enzyme based formula, enzymes are not used in the reactions which they catalyze ("speed up"), which in this case the is breaking down of "sludge" and fungi. Therefore, there is no "shock dose" of startron, using 1oz or 12oz's will only change the time which it takes to break down the substrate (fungi/sludge). 1oz will take longer, but it will break down the same amount of substrate as 12oz, given the time.

Throw 1oz in at each fill-up, preferably at night, so the startron has time to sit in the fuel and react with the contaminates. There is no reason to put any more in your tank, other than to waste money.

I believe the instructions on the bottle say to let it sit for at least 24 hours...

I did a Biobor shock on my tank, last week, and the filters started getting full of crud immediatly. Had to change the primary 4 times in 400 miles.

Put in a dose of Startron early this morning, and the car actually runs better already! Less crap in the filter this evening than the last few days.

I drive the same distance almost every day (80 miles round trip), and I could feel the car starving out the last few miles, each evening. After the Startron early this morning, the car ran great all the way down and back!

I am sold, Startron works....................

Running even better today. Went for a run this AM, and was suprised at the increase in power. Exhaust was cleaner, and the engine is running smoother. Filter is not full of crud, just a few little specks. I have to say I am very impressed. In my case, Startron really works.

I am not a believer in "miracle" cures for car problems, but this one seems to be legit. I have been using Startron for Gas engines since ethenol came out, and have been equally impressed with its perfromance. It is a necessity on all marine engines that are not run daily.

Thanks! Good to know...

I've noticed that Biobor kills all the stuff but doesn't dissolve it into the fuel (clogged filters) whereas Startron (also named Soltron) kills and then dissolves it into the fuel resulting in less clogged filters. I had a severe problem with fungus in my tank, after using a couple rounds of Soltron I pulled the strainer and it was completely clean.

I am several days into the Startron treatment, and it just keeps getting better. Did 200 miles yesterday, and the prefilter still looks fairly clean, just a little bit of crud. It was clogging every 70 miles.

I noticed the car idles smoother, and has more pep at low rpm's, so I guess it is cleaning out some of the crud in the IP or the injectors.

So far, I am very impressed with this product.

I put some in my tank last fill-up, and I feel as if Im getting higher MPGs. However I need to run the calculations to know for sure.

Peppiness may be true also. I dont think it is placebo, given that I didnt drive the car for over a week after dosing the stuff.

That said, 1ox into 15 gallons of fuel isnt going to make a big difference, so if anything, perhaps it changed how moisture was dispersed or something like that...

If it indeed works as advertised (via enzymatic reactions) than 1oz in 1000 gallons will work the same as 1oz in 15 gallons, it will just take longer.
