I'm not getting ANY reading on any of them by doing the above.
Should they read SOMETHING if they are bad? or Zip?

Relating to GP's, is it common for ALL to go at once or is something else going astray maybe?
I've had 1 or 2 go bad on my Dodge, but never all at once and even then truck would almost fire or at least fire hard.
This MB doesn't do a THING.

Thanks

Even one bad plug on a 617 will sometimes cause it not to fire. No reading=bad.

Its not that uncommon to have several to go at once...I have heard of all 5 being bad but usually that is after an extended period of no maintenance. Replace all 5 with decent ones (I recommend Bosch). Also adjust your valves if it has been a whiel.

Have you reviewed dieselgiant? The last time I was there, it was pretty complete - including pretty pictures. You could measure resistance on a new plug & know what they read on your meter.

Most likely senario is that as one after another failed the starting ability just declined. Eventually there where no glow plugs left to fail.

This may be a good thing as an engine able to do this usually has very good compression. It is not unusual for some diesels to not want to start with only one or two glow plugs burnt out.

Look up reaming the glow plug holes up in the archives. . If the car saw little highway use and a lot of ideling the prechambers may have carboned up more than normal as well. These engines should experience a good highway run once in awhile. Cleans out some of the excess carbon if present.
