Where is cigarette lighter??

Hi,
You may think this a silly question but..I have an 83 diesel 300D. Someone gave me a car vacuum cleaner, which I am to plug into the cigarette lighter.
I looked in the manual to see where it is...I don't see it in the car!..is this possible. Can someone tell me what it looks like and where it is?...
Thanks Very much

Cigarette Lighter

Built into the ashtry, on the left side of ashtray. If it is missing, you still may be able to use the receptacle to charge your phone, etc. . . . if it is dead . . . check and replace the fuse in the fuse panel under the hood, almost as far back as the driver!!!!

Just a note to say thanks. I found I had a non working lighter when I tried using a 12V accessory cord. Fuse was good, the lighter looked new and never used but it wouldn't work or pop out. I did a forum search and came across this. Pulled the ashtray and found the plug dangling. Thanks. Works great now.
