Question '82 300TD Squeal ???

Adolph the dailey driver, 300TD w/345000 miles auto trans, serviced regular, no ac belt connected. Here is what is going on and what I have done to fix,
Loud squeal, thought it was belts, 1) replaced belts and made sure they were tight, still squeling 2) tried bely dressing still squealing , checked pully's all of them, all tight, still squealing 3) Asking forum for help!

Symptoms: When I start the car all is good, I can put the car in drive and sometimes no noise other times it will squeal. Squeal will continue until car shifts into 2nd.
If the noise starts I can slip the trans into neutral and squeal will quit everytime, slide it back into drive, sometimes noise will have stop and sometimes it wont.

Any ideas?

HMMMM.
sounds like a front pump issue on the transmission...
can you describe the squeal? motor mounts can cause a squeak with vibrations... motor tilts under load and hits things....

Hey John,
What exactly is the transmission front pump issue? Is this terminal? On the car I am swapping into I think I am sometimes getting a similar sound. I have been told it was parked because of the transmission before I got it, but all I could really find so far was a bunch of vacuum problems, and of course this mystery sound.

Thanks,

Shane

At first, I thought i t was thewater pump more so than belts, then pullies! The sound is becoming more like a water pump squealling. The sound is shrill but has a low rumble or growl that is drowneded out by the squealling. But the shrill noise drowns out the low rumble.

If it is the water pump, sometimes trying to move the fan, you will feel the movement in the water pump shaft. But not always.

I have had water pumps leak and not make a sound.
