Cool 240D sleeper - V8 power!

I'm sure it makes some rumbling noise, but it's not a diesel!
Saw this today on craigslist for $3500. I bet he's blown away a lot of unsuspecting people with this one. Chevy V8 with borgwarner 5 speed. There is some money in this car!

That appears to be completely sale-proof.

$1200 for a sunroof, and no pics. What's with that.

I considered doing this on a W123 I had previously.
In California I probably would have been able to avoid bi-annual smog inspections by using a no-smog-required diesel.

I like it.

The "huge sunroof" scares me in a unibody car...

Years ago I was building homes up in MD near Olney. I guy came in to look at our construction and I noticed his Volvo just did not look right ! I asked him a few questions and as it turns out he owned a shop and did conversions dropping in Ford V8's into various Volvo bodies. Very slick !

The Volvos were total sleepers except from the rear when you saw the dual exhaust.

The sunroof was a big waste of money.
Otherwise, I've considered doing something like this, if I had a tired 240D (and lots of extra time) to spare. I'd probably go with a small-block 5.0 Ford (a bit lighter, more compact, and the distributor's in front) with an automatic. Also, would probably need to swap in the 2.88 diff from an '85 300D.

In vancouver BC aka British Columbia aka Bring Cash Canada doing smog test once a yr was painfully enuf.
My bro has a 98 E320 when she failed smog test, he took her to the stealership, they just nod the heads & no dice, no amount of lipsticks to make this little piggy pretty.
So they took it to an indy guy, he charged him $800 and passed the smog test.
Wonder if the stealership felt to quote him a big price , my bro may have a cardiac seizure!

I question the "sunroof" thing too, but it's a neat car. Especially that it's covered a few miles since converted.

Last year, at the Carlisle PA import show, I saw a W108 280S, with a small-block Ford V8 and tranny swap. It might have been an interesting car except that the roof and door-frames had been chopped to create a 4-door 'convertible' - I'm pretty sure without benefit of any serious unibody reinforcement!
