I hate to ask, but .... 124 headlight bulb tips?

How do you get the headlamp bulbs out?

I've done this before several times, but after you unplug the bulb, there's the round plastic collar you have to get off to get the bulb out. That always sticks, turns only a little bit for me, maybe 1/8" then stops (in either direction) as though it's locked, but not enough to get off. I know it gets locked in one direction, and loose by turning it the other way, if I only could.

The one I'm working on, is the one near the air filter, so it's harder since you can't get your hand in properly.

Is there a tool I can get into that area and use, without breaking the plastic collar? Once it's out, I'm also wondering if a bit of oil in that area would make it easier to come out next time. The bulbs are made to last a shorter period of time now, especially if you get the new brighter and wider view bulbs.

Thanks,

I took off the wiper, removed the metal plate it passes through, and then removed the surround, it kinda unclips with a flat screwdriver... then the glass bolts are accessible.

sorry, didn't read far enough... thought you wanted the headlamps out... not just the bulbs...

Just the bulbs

I just need to remove the bulbs. I'm always afraid I'm going to break the plastic collar. Sticks every time. Can't turn it any further to get it off.

Lefty Loosey. Be careful not to break the plastic. It is brittle after 24 years.

I've use a rag to get better grip on the plastic ring. (also if it cracks it doesn't cut your hand). You might want to take it to Autozone (They'll change it for free).

even if you snap the plastic ring, its not the end of the world, the o-ring from the bulb will keep itself in place

Got it off

Man, that one on the passenger side is hard to get to!! Ouch! Mostly due to the air filter being in the way.

Finally got it off, bulb changed, all is well!

Thanks!
