diesel purge and primer pump 84 300SD help please

So I would like to get started on a diesel purge but it looks like there is some manual priming needed. For the life of me I can't figure out what the primer pump is, what it looks like or where it is. I'm assuming it's on the injection pump, but if anyone can tell me or has a picture of what it looks like, it would be greatly appreciated. I checked a bunch of posts and videos but still can't figure it out. Tough being a noob.

The fuel line leaving the primary filter leads to the fuel pump. The primer pump is on the fuel pump next to the fuel line. If the primer pump has a white knob with a serrated edge, you will need to unscrew the plunger before you can pump. If you have a smooth, black plunger, all you need to do is pump.

This shows the new style pump. Black cylinder with yellow markings in the lower, left quadrant of the photo:

Hey, that's ok.... the old style used to have a slightly odd, hollow-looking grey knob that you had to UNSCREW for quite a few turns before you could pump it.

I wonder how many people fought with their "seized" primer pump knob for some time, before they figured out it unscrewed?

(blushes, raises hand...)

ALERT: No, don't get confused, the new black style don't lock. Totally different... this is quasi-ancient history I'm talkin here....

I have a CD manual but it's lacking in a lot of areas. I would expect to be able to find it, but couldn't find a reference to it anywhere. All the fuel filter replacements only referenced the gassers as an example of the frustration of not being able to find the info I'm looking for. Contacted MB directly and they said they are in the process of redoing all their literature and to check back in Sept. sometime.
