What do I keep

I have a 82 300sd with a bad tranny. And a couple of badly dented or rusted panels. I spent the day carefully removing the motor. I am wondering what parts are of value in the car and what they might be worth. My first inclination was to pull the motor and scrap the car. However, I just wouldn't feel good about that when I am sure parts from my car could go to make another drivable.

I am planning on mating up the Mercedes diesel to a GM SM465 which is a 4 speed tranny with an NP205 transfer case. It is going to go into a Scout with high steer, Dana 44's with 4.88 gears. I have an Ox locker for the front and a Detroit in the rear. It should be a climbing tough machine.

Sounds like an interesting project. don`t see very many of the old Scouts around any more. please post pictures of the project as you go along.

As far as to what parts to save on the old SD. window motors and regulators if good, rear glass, if the corners aren`t cloudy and door glass, instrument cluster, Differential, switches, seats if good. door panels. arm rests, hood, deck lid, doors. all depends what is good, not dented and or rusted.

It is always after you junk a car that, "OH dang, I should have saved that...." Never Should on your self.

W126 Rear Glass and Wheels

" rear glass, if the corners aren`t cloudy and door glass, instrument cluster, Differential, switches, seats if good. door panels. arm rests, hood, deck lid, doors."

As Charlie said, many parts could be used by someone...

Where are you located? If you are close enough, and the rear window hasn't delaminated on the edges, I may be interested. Also looking for set of 4 bundts as backup for my car...

Let me know!

I am in Idaho

This is actually my third Scout build. The first is a Cummins 4bt, the second is an original diesel SD33. Here is a link http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82447

I also have an 84 300d and an 82 SD. I have cummins, Scout, and mercedes stuff everywhere. I need to narrow it down I have to much clutter.

WOW!!! I just read through your build thread. you put some hours in that project. looks great.

I have a 67 IHC 1500B 1 1/2 ton, 345 V8 4 spd with a 3-spd brownie.
been sitting out in the barn where we live now 24 yrs, and a few places before that. last time I ran it was back in 78. bought it back in 7-72.
wanted to put a 4-53 Detroit in it at one time, and a 10 spd Road ranger.
