Thumbs up W126 center flap element and leg room door

On my 300SD...

My driver side leg room door is broken from its actuation arm. I am more concerned about proper max A/C function for most of the year than I am for heat coming from this location. Has anyone just used some silicone or RTV to hold this door shut?

Also, my center flap element will not hold vacuum. Lovely. Anyway, I have the defroster disconnected and pulled forward for normal vent operation but it is nice to have it normally functional.

Minus dash removal, is it possible to R&R this unit? It appears if I have the center console removed there may be enough room to fumble about in there.

Get off your ass and go document a procedure to properly fix that driver side legroom door. We all suffer from the problem and we all need a proper fix without dismantling the entire interior...............

Yes, you can change the center vent pod on an SD without removing the dash. You'll need some strong and thin fingers to do it. Thankfully, I haven't done it personally. There are some writeups about it.

Thumbs up

LOL I will see what I can do regarding that leg room door. Need to sift through that EPC more to see exactly how it connects (if there are any internal parts available)

Center pod is en route, just a quick look at the vac layout and this is why my defroster pod cannot fully shut. Oh well, simple solution and it does not look too terribly complex to R&R.

Drill a small hole in the plastic in the proper place. Use a bent wire of adequate strength to manipulate the door open or closed, as needed. As the door is no longer fixed to the linkage, arrange a method to hold the door in the desired position.
There, I fixed it.
