to me, this means the diesel should ALWAYS use multigrade oil
The way I read it was that the numbers were referring to 2 different weights on the chart, the second reference being to not use 10-40 in the 617.95x turbos.

No chance that could be significant at all . You probably just got some bad fuel or fuel laden with crud. Or maybe there was some water in it that got strained out by the primary filter.

Go get a gallon of fresh D#2 from a different station and plumb the fuel intake/return into it. Drive it around on that a bit and see if the problem goes away.

Update #2: Finished cleaning the banjo bolt and lines from the ALDA to the intake manifold, and there was a ton of crud blocking it up! Now that it's all cleared out, the Benz runs really nice and smooth with a surprising amount of power. Sounds like I got my turbo back!

Huge turnaround from 6 days ago, and thanks to everyone who posted with your invaluable advice

Jus noticed this.

Actually the superscript 2 is for 10w-40 oil use, not related to superscript 1 which was about sae 30/40 oils.

If you really believed that you would have a PreOiler on your car... just like many trucks do....
Do you have a preoiler ?

I really believe it and I don't. Have you looked at the differerence in viscosity between an sae40 and a 5w-40 at 40C?

Rotella 15w-40 is 120 cst at 40C
Rotella SAE 30 and 40 are 107 and 120 respectively.
Rotella 5w-40 is 87.

So if were talking a hot day, which one will pump faster/easier?

When it gets cold what do you think will happen?
