1978 300d fan controls
Hey guys, hope this is the right place to post this, if not mods move if need be.
In my 300d, I have the "medusa" chrysler vacuum thing up front. My mechanic removed it when he did the motor swap, before the swap and the death of the last engine, my fan controls worked. Now I went and re hooked the servo up but only the defrost works(electronic override is my understanding). My questions is, is there a way to bypass the servo and make all the buttons electronic? or can someone post a picture of a properly hooked up servo? I'm not even sure I hooked it up right. The car has no AC but vents when raining would be nice Thanks guys! |

I feel your pain. as do many others i'm sure.
I think that we can all agree that the ACCII servo controlled system is truly a POS. At least its designed to fail in a position that will give you max defrost only. I would not recommend replacing it with another servo unless you happen to have access to a parts car or another servo that you can get for cheep. Quality replacements are going for around $400 and rebuilt ones are looking to be about the same price. Two solutions- One, what i did. http://unwiredtools.com/ For just a little more that the price of a replacement servo you can totally ditch the servo and go with a completely electronic control for the climate control system. Works excellent in my '78. I went from having defrost only, like yours, and the servo leaking coolant water all over the place to having a fully functioning system ( defrost, multiple speed fan operation, automatic temp control, A/C). Very Nice!! Another option, One that I have not investigated very much is... Check out Mercedes Source . com . It looks like he's got a kit that can restore some of the functionality of the system and it looks like its not very expensive. Good Luck! |

The MS kit doesn't do very much.
I feel your pain but there is no easy way to fix this system (unless you luck out on the first thing you check). Are you SURE everything got hooked up correctly after the work was done? For example, there should be a connector that plugs into the bottom of the servo... that often gets forgotten (or inadvertently pulled out) and the system won't work without it. Have you read this? The Servo Gods Have Heard Your Prayers: There is other troubleshooting info in various posts here, but honestly I wish someone would do a step by step pictorial -- much like our DieselGiant friend did for vacuum troubleshooting. I need that sort of spoon-feeding for this kind of stuff. Maybe I will be the one to do it, as the system is dead on my 1980 TD. ![]()

I guess i assumed that you have checked all of the connections and everything on the servo and have diagnosed the servo as faulty.

OK first! thanks for the replies!
I have that ************** manual heater control valve with a pull in the dash, however that does not help with vents. I went and looked again at the bottom of the servo, there are two needle type things coming off the bottom, one looks like a vaccum line or vent and the other potentially an electrical plug. However I do not see any cable I can plug in there, is the correct wire on the in the same line as the one that goes onto the T-stat? Looks like "my mechanic" clipped two wires in the same line as that one. One is blue and the other looks brown. Does anyone have a picture of theirs properly hooked up? Its a wonder my car runs as well as it does let alone at all, keep finding surprises like this, the guy liked to just cut wires and cables .. . . |
