Idle Solenoid r/r 300D 602
How do you remove and replace the Idle Solenoid which sits behind the shutoff valve?
I have it loose but I cannot get it any farther out or back in. Thx |

There is a picture of the "idle solenoid" in this thread:

No it is the one with three prong black plug with wires out of the cap. Standing over the driver's fender and looking toward the block it sits behind and left of the white shutoff valve.
The thread entitled, "Shut off valve replacement W124 602/3 300D 2.5" depicts it clearly. ![]() |

The first arrow to the black plug. This photo show it close-up:
![]() I pulled the whole damn thing partially out...including the 3 prong male plug base. Patience is not one of my virtues. How does the base go back in? |

Your description threw me. That's the connector for the control rod sensor, not an idle solenoid. It also doesn't come off except from inside the IP. At most you can detach the wiring side of the connector after you release the bayonet lock. Sounds like you figured it out.

Sixto,
I wish I had it figured out. I have it loose from the base where it connects to the housing. Where the brass ring is on the bottom below the brown plastic thumb tag. thx |

You pulled off the base? Maybe you only dislodged the bayonet locking ring. I had a 603 IP with the bayonet locking ring long gone. The control rod sensor connector never worked loose. So if push comes to shove, you should be okay without the bayonet locking ring. Or maybe the connector came apart. There's a lid that allows you remove the wires without removing the connector itself. I couldn't remove the connector in my 87 SDL when it went in to be rebuilt. I popped the lid, noted the order of the wires and pulled off the pins. Even Gus at PFI couldn't pull the connector from the socket.
I don't remember the control rod sensor connector being a problem in the 603 IP. I had to at least spin the ALDA for clearance. Sixto 87 300D |

I am going to pull the intake manifold so I can see better what's going on.
