1985 300SD, normal operating temperature
Hello All,
I am likely purchasing a 1985 Mercedes 300SD this week. The car is spotless, woodgrain is in excellent condition, car is 99% rust free underside and all, paint is spotless, excellent oil pressure. The owner has had the vehicle since 1991 and has all service records since the car was new. 190K miles. One thing I noticed when driving the vehicle was that the temperature gauge was sitting at right around 90-93 the entire time I was driving the vehicle (varying speeds between stop and go and highway). My 240D usually sits right around 80, raising on warmer days or highway trips cruising 65+ MPH. Is it normal for the 5cyl Turbodiesel to run warmer than my 4cyl diesel? It did not seem like it was overheating, just a little warmer than my 240 usually is. Thank you in advance for your help!

The t'stat begins to open at 80 C, then is fully open at 92 C, perfectly normal.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the reply! That was my main reservation with the vehicle, so I am glad to hear it is fairly normal. I'm sure I will have a handful of additional questions after I pick up the vehicle Wednesday. I will post pictures of the few underbody rust spots in awhile to see if any are a concern.
