Why is my sunroof more faded than the rest of the roof?

Just wondering....roof is nice deep midnight blue, sunroof is a decidedly more faded version of the same. How come?

Might have been replaced at some time and repainted, or maybe in the factory the Sun Roofs are not painted at the time the car was painted, and a different paint batch?

The one on my silver 85 300D has turned blue . for real.

It's all the extra sun it attracts. I mean, it's right there in the name.

Mine is noticeably different as well (also midnight blue); the clearcoat is perfect, but the blue is 'off' to the trained eye...

My metallic teal SD also has a different shade of fading on the sunroof... I suppose it could be a different angle from the rest of the car's roof. also could be heat related, as the smaller piece of metal of the sunroof may have the heat from the sun more concentrated... I dunno?

Sunroof repainted and roof not? Roof repainted and sunroof not?

One or the other seems likely. They should all start out the same at the factory.

Possible, though seems unlikely. Have had car since 2003, so I guess PO could have done something.

Seems unlikely the "smaller piece of metal" is the cause. It's in contact with the rest of the body, so heat should equilibrate. The actual color dictates what wavelengths of light are absorbed & reflected. Seems more likely that the sunroofs are not painted at the same time (paint batch). I work with color every day (printing industry), and small variations in color can be very noticeable when viewed side by side... Color measurement & control is now light years ahead of where it was 20-30 years ago...

Sorry for the hijack, but what is the color code for metallic teal?
