My bosch says "Made in Hungary". Also, it only just began having issues and the guy that rebuilt it would not have given me the alt back if it wasn't working properly.

It sounds like your alternator is working properly. The light is a different issue. I can not remember, but there is an idiosynchrocy with the light in some of the MB's, but old age is setting in and I can't remember what it is. The Cavalry should show up once they see that the red light is the only problem.

Hope this helps,
Larry

No, I dont think it is charging at full. It under 13 when idling and only 13.25 when driving.

Found the problem:

I drove it for the weekend trip fine and got back in town and then my power steering went out...it all came together! It was the pulley working loose the whole time but I didn't have a clue. It threw my belt (everything was fine thankfully). So I dropped the alternator out on the spot and got it to him this morning. He is going to have it ready soon...instead of fooling with it myself, I figured I would let him test on the chance that it wasn't just the pulley.

Thanks for all the help!

is the spring contact where the regulator pushes CLEAN and does the alternator have a good positive cable.. check for voltage at the main cable lug and also check with a new battery. It maybe a dead battery cell too.

Jon,

I think it's charging okay. The lower than usual voltage could be the result of a really good battery or something. If it will keep it charged at a slightly lower voltage that's a good thing, since you eliminate the chance of frying the battery with too much voltage.

As far as the red light goes, there is something unique to these cars regarding the light. In years past there was a period on mercedesshop when this subject was discussed at length. You might try doing some searching in this forum. Maybe search battery light, or charge light or battery indicator or something. I'm sorry I can't remember the details.

Old age is setting in and I've just lost too many brain cells in my 62 years on Earth. This statement would be widely confirmed on this forum.

Hope this helps,
Larry

Well...got the alternator back in after discovering rectifier was burnt out both bearings were also replaced.

STILL BROKEN!!

He made a new keyway and even used loctite to assure this wouldnt happen again. The pulley wobbled loose again!!! It took maybe 15 miles to begin making noise.

He is a great guy and straightforward and I am confident he will make it right. That said, could anything be causing this? He was wondering what could be causing the problem.

Tensioner assembly was replaced 3 years ago or so including spring and shock tensioner (which is already clacking cause of worn upper bushing). The Shock was my first thought and I am gonna swap that out throughout this process but once I felt the pulley, it was once again loose, much to my dismay.

HELP?
