Power window problem 85 300 SD

My passenger window does not go up or down I suspect the motor is bad.The motor has 2 wires coming off it when I put 12 volts to either wire and the ground on the motor itself it does nothing. Is this the correct way to check this motor? Can they be repaired It says it is made by brose coburg are the motors the same front and back?

Do not know why the picture got so big.

Depending on direction of rotation, one lead is positive and the other is ground. (Reversing polarity reverses direction.)

Put the positive lead on one wire and the negative lead on the other instead of the motor and see if it works.

Tango I did try to check it the way you said and all I got was a big spark nothing moved any way I tried it.Also a little confused the picture I showed is that just the motor or is it motor and regulator?

power window problem 85 300SD

I did some checking on Fastlane and it seems there are 10 differant motors for my car 6-front 4-back. There are 3 differant drive gears 8-10-and 14 tooth.I have an 8 tooth Brose-Cobury.This tells me they are not interchangeable from any one door to next do not know why M.B. had to make everything so complicated.Still wondering if this one can be repaired as I read that sometimes a bearing freezes up or the brushes go bad.

Here is a couple good threads. post# 6 shows the motor taken apart.
Anyone replace a window motor in a w126?

this is for a W123, but same thing.
123 window lift motor?

I asked the question in this thread if another window motor could be swaped into another gear Housing. didn`t get an answer, and haven`t tried it. a possibility. some of the window motors are NLA.

The pictures shows the motor and drive gear. The regulator is the system of arms/levers that translate rotational movement into up and down movement.

power window problem

Update on the window problem I found a used one off e-bay and bought it while waiting to receive it figured I would start taking out rivets and try to see if I could repair old one but before I started gave it one last test with direct juice and low and behold it worked both ways so threw it back in and if it happens again will put the other used one in and then rip this one apart to see whats going on can have it in and out now in probably 1/2 hr. just hope it do'nt get stuck down on a long trip in 0 degrees or pouring rain. Thanks for the replys and info. how to test them the window works.

Least expensive replacement is at the yard. Get entire window regulator with the motor. Local European yard says that there were changes over the years but generally regulators from a 126 will fit.

Grab misc things while you're there. Bumper that trips door locks, cruise components, CCU, wood trim if available, AC pods, relays, glow timer etc. Most can be had for next to nothing & "may" work.

The driver side always goes first. I did the replacement. Relatively easy. The test says it is the motor. Parts Geek was the best source. Count the teeth on the gear. Tough part was getting the window adjusted after install. Takes time. BTW the different motors move the windows at different speeds. Fast for drivers side (tolls etc.) Rear is slow for safety of passengers.

The same as the other posts. The Window Motors are not grounded through the Chassis as your Starter Motor is; so testing them that way is not going to work.

The most common reason a window does not work is the Switch (find the DIY on taking the Switch apart and cleaning the contacts; I scraped mine with a small pocket knife), 2 windows diagonal to each other on opposite sides the a Fuse, followed by broken Wires and lastly an issue with the Motor; Brushes or gummed up bushings.

i fixed mine that way; put power to it and used some pliers to free up the gear, then popped the cover off and greased everything inside (it was totally dried up); been working fine for 6 months now...

power window problem

Shadetree wish I would of taken the time to pop the cover off and grease it up but if it sticks again which it probably will will do it next time.Getting pretty quick at taking door panel off.Is it fairly simple to pop cover off since it is riveted on and what do you do repean it on or drill and tap holes instead of rivets?

Same deal for me, all four window motors were stuck. 3 years later, all motors still working. Now if I could just get around to fixing he broken regulators...
