Where to buy POR15

I can't find a place around me that will stock it. Everyone would be happy to order it for me, but I can't find a place to get it within the week. I even got told from two places that they don't stock it because it's not a "high rust area". For Pete's sake they DUMP salt on the roads in this area!

So other than ordering online and paying for quick shipping, does anyone know of a place in the DC metro area (Maryland hopefully) that stocks POR15? Has anyone bought any not through the mail?

....and yes I checked the auto paint supply stores. They all want to order it.

The company is located in NJ. Every time I've ordered it, it arrived in less than a week without rush shipping.

the stuff does not keep long in the can... stocking a product that does not move quickly is unwise for most suppliers.
I've always gotten it in 2 to 3 days when I order it.
it's sold on ebay, or directly.
same company.

I got it from a local auto parts place that also sells car paint. If you have something similar I would check there.

It's about 3 hours away. I'll think I'll hit that place up when I got to Chad's bbq.

You can buy it from amazon.com. I would recommend getting the four can starter pack. It has a good shelf life if unopened and kept in the fridge. If unopened and kept in a cool area it will keep several years. If opened and then closed, shelf life is days to weeks, depends on the temperature. That is why I like the small "starter" cans. Well I just checked, starter kit is no longer available, seems the single pint is the way to go.

Maybe Amazon doesn`t have the starter kit. but I buy the 4oz cans in a 6 pack from a POR 15 distributor in Sacramento. these people are usually at a Hot Rod car show I go to, and I pick it up there.

The paint will keep in the can if it has not been opened.

Once opened, then make sure the grove is clean, place a piece of Seran wrap across the opening, then replace the lit. (Hammer it on).

turn the can upside down, this will insure air doesn`t get in.

The paint is cured by the moisture in the air. It is recommended to dip out the paint you need, and then seal up the can. by painting from the can, then the moisture in the air is starting the chemical process in the open can.

I have cans where the paint is cured inside the can after I placed the Seran wrap under the lid. but I left the cans upright. the can will bulge from the curing process.

If you live in an arrid region like Arizona, the paint will almost never dry. spray some water around the area, and it will speed up the curing.

I learned some of these tips from the POR Distributor.

http://www.por15.com/Data%20Sheets/POR15ApplicationInfo.pdf

It is a great product if used and designed.

my little can sits on a shelf in an airconditioned room, Ive opened it twice - and only used about a tablespoon of it.

I cleaned the lid perimeter and sealed the can with a hammer - it hasnt bulged yet. Is my POR-15 junk now?

Don`t know, you will have to open it to find out. I do know that if there is any wet paint in the groove when you put the lid on, and later on try to remove it, good luck. It is like it is welded on. so it is another good reason to use some seran wrap under the lid.
