Not smoking then smoking
Hi, all here goes. The 85 300SD has been running well except when get to the bottom 1/4 tank. I still need to replace/clean fuel tank strainer. Yesterday I filled up and drove off. As I hit a wide open stretch of Toll road I opened her up
to about 85-90 mph then backed down slowly. When I got on the local streets again I noticed smoking at idle when stopped ( due to the car behinds headlights ) I know the valves need to be adjusted but could that be a cause. I have read but do not fully understand the oil separator and how to read issues with it. I know a diesel will smoke but this seemed to be right after a fill up unless I just missed it before. Could it be the seasonal change in the fuel blend ? I have noticed that after I recently replaced the broken exhaust hangars and that I still have a rattle/vibration that did not go away. I will investigate tomorrow. Thoughts ?

CRUD !
Sorry, I rambled back and forth and posted before I finished. The issue of the exhaust rattle was more or less concern that oil might be leaking from the turbo over.

You will always see a diesel smoke at night with headlights, it is the particulates of left over fuel. As for the exhaust rattle, I have a 300d so it might be different, but there were 4 hangars that had to be replaced before mine would stop vibrating/rattling.
