350SDL manual conversion

So Ive done a manual conversion in my old 300D and that didnt seem to bad. However that car Had manual gearbox that was actually made for the car. Now I would like to convert my 350 to a manual. I really dont like having such high revs on the highway with only the 4spd automatic and I quite prefer a manual gearbox to an auto any day. Anyone know what transmission I could use? I found a 190D with a manual gearbox (dunno if its a 4 or 5spd) and was probably going to use that since its Benz and everything should fit right in. Ideas anyone??

If that doesn't work you can try parts of an '86 300E 5-speed.

There are gray market 126s with clutch pedals if you're patient.

I thought that you have to use the gearbox from a diesel engine, because if you use a gearbox from a petrol powered car the diesels torque will rip it apart.

I can't see a 603.970 ripping apart a transmission that can put up with an M103. In any case, the clutch will serve as a fuse if you don't go overboard with the pressure plate.

Ashead is using a 5 speed from a 190 no problem the only problem is the flywheel if you use the flywheel from a 190 you have to use a flywheel from M103 you can find it in 190 also but the one with 2.6 engine

Im stealing all of the parts from a 190, although im not sure if its a 2.6 or not. Are the speedos on that car electronic? Id really like to keep the electronic speedo instead of going back to that stupid cable

2.6 is a 6 cylinder. No if you want a manual transmission you are going back to cable

Stick the electronic pickup on the end of the cable

How out of place does a 124 speedo look in a 126 cluster?

I don't know if there's a way to route the cable. Every W126 has an electronic speedo.

I couldn`t find a pic of the front when finished. I have seen the car and it looks factory.
