I put URO flex discs on my 560SEL. 9 months later they gave up with little warning. The result was that the drive shaft tore the back of the transmission casing clean off along with the mount and the knocking around the drive shaft set off both air bags, thus turning my very nice 91 560SEL into a parts car.

They are OK for antenna masts and windshield rubber. I would never again use them for critical items. Had the drive shaft hit the ground it would have catapulted the car and probably killed me in the process

In these days of economic turmoil, marketers getting the biggest profit for crap seems to be rampant. You need to inspect closely before you buy (or install).

One evening, I needed a secondary fuel-filter for my 240D. My closest Pep-Boys had a Purolator-boxed German MANN filter. The nearby Advance Autoparts had the same Purolator for $3 cheaper, but inside was a no-name white filter, labeled 'Made in China'!
Later, I returned a Chinese 240D flex-joint to a local supplier because the rubber was hard as a rock. I was afaid it could put undue stress on my tranny's aluminum rear housing.

On that fan-clutch, before even peeling the label, the tip-off might have been 'Made in Taiwan'.

As for O'Reilly's, recently I needed some front stabilizer-links for a Toyota, and most of my local suppliers were out of them or they wanted too much for 'Made in China'. I found the links at O'Reilly's - made in Japan for about half what everyone else wanted to charge.

Happy Motoring, Mark

high stress items like the flex discs, centre bearing, motor mounts, and steering equipment should not be compromised on. The results are very expensive. Deep set items like the blower or evaporator of a W124 should not be compromised on too unless you love taking your car apart every friday. The fan clutch can be counted as easy to undo part. (takes me less than 5 minutes to take it out of my E300D - if it works like requested then use it, if it does not decouple when hot at 3 grand worth of rpm - its a disaster waiting to happen.

Cosmetic fill in the blanks are OK with Uro parts.

OTOH - if your clutch is not noisy, then a cleanup, a feed of Toyota 3000 cst fluid and borrowing your wifes oven for 5 minutes can reclaim a fan clutch. It took me 4 attempts to reclaim the BEHR clutch on my car but it works now. took a bottle worth of 10 dollars of silicone fluid. e.g. if your clutch very very slightly couples at cold startup then you need about 5cc of fluid for a thin type 606 clutch, for the older thick one, fill and check.

You can also clean it up with napa aluminum brightener to give it that brand new look too. It will be better than the new URO part.

URO

Aug 2010,
Uro windows regulator gone after operating first time on 1995 W124.
Pieces between upper and lower arms where ... GLUED...

Part was replaced by the supplier without asking too much questions. Labor is on me.

My relationship to URO is well-defined

Not to be confused with "clearly defined."

kinda off topic, but I'm guessing this member needs to join this group on here...
