Running in a non concetric way with too much play. I do not think the turbo seals would maintain a good seal. As kerry mentioned leakage could be on the turbo exhaust side as well that is not visable.

I assume the area that was visable to you is not oily? The u shaped boot is also dry inside?

The U shaped hose did have some oil inside but I think that was due to the pcv hose being spliced into it. ( any pics of where the pcv hose actually goes)?T he shaft of the turbo didn't seem to have any play that recall,but the vanes were definitely damaged.

The KKK is definitely much much easier to adjust than the Garrett. You will likely pull your hair out trying to get the flat coil spring out and back in trying to adjust the Garrett. Hey maybe if your handle wasn't oiler you wouldn't be having this problem?

BTW I forgot to ask can the turbo be lifted up and off the intake with the draintube?

PCV hose goes into the U-tube on an early 116 617. There's no oil separator or drain tube.

Thought it was odd to have that hose going straight to the intake of the turbo.
