1981 300SD 4200$
I have found a 1981 300SD with 63,000 miles. It has sit a long time. I know the car and the people just never drove it much and for the last five years it has sit under a tree. He wants 4200 for it. The interior is nice and there is not much rust. Is this a bad deal in your opinion. The miles are actual I know but it has sit and that bothers me. They are the orginal owners of the car. for the first 20 years it was in a garage.

what kind of tree? how much sap/nuts/leaves/needles in the car?
"not much rust" is a VERY arbitrary statement. WHERE is the "rust" what panels are bad? pics are needed to asses value, and actually, a personal inspection would be needed to see value, but IF it was well serviced, and IF you are CERTAIN the miles are accurate, then the ENGINE alone is worth 4K...

W126
I purchased a 1981 300SD with 93,000 for 3K in 2004. I ended up having to drop 5k into it to make it road worthy.
No regrets though. I mention it so you can go into it with your eyes open.

63,000 miles sounds great but sometimes sitting can be harder on these cars than driving them. I would take a close look at it though. Nice provenance if it's a 1 owner
I picked up a 90,000 mile 1980 SD and had to put about $1000 into it straight away to keep it on the road Mostly rotten rubber parts... Unless it's a clean good runner with decent tires I'd try to bargain down some.

$4200 sounds way high. More information and some pics would help us give you a better idea of the probably market value of the car. When was the last time the car actually ran? Can you verify that the engine isn't seized? Is there any evidence rodents have gotten into the vehicle?
You should probably figure on a set of tires and a change of all fluids at a minimum if you buy it. Lots of other stuff could be bad but might be ok.

Check the Blue Book value of that model, year, and condition. Make note of what you'd need to do to get it into a condition you could live with. The difference is what you'd think as your top dollar offer. Post some pictures, as suggested, for everyone to look at; it will help immensely in judging the condition.

I checked the car out better today. I am not impressed with it up close. It has lots of rot from sitting so much and rust underneath! I guess it is from sitting in a damp spot all those years. It was last driven on the road in 2005! I think I will pass.

that's too bad.
please post the location and seller info for someone looking for a donor engine/trans/other drive components. as a driver, it's not worth it I guess, but those parts should be worth a fortune. also, the low mileage could mean the seats, and window motors and regulators are all perfect. not 4200 perfect, considering the labor needed to remove all that stuff, but still, quite a bit of change. someone may be able to knock the price down a bit.

The car is in Bolt WV which is near Beckley. I will get a number and post it next time I go by it. I have not actually heard it run. I just looked it over well and noticed no visable leaks on the engine. It does have one busted motor mount for sure. It has A choc brown interior and the exterior is gold. I noticed some hail damage as well. to the trunk lid and top of the car. The paint is crazing and faded. There is also a 124 at a junk yard near Beckley that has a 100% perfect Maroon interior. I do not have the time to remove it myself but if anyone needs perfect seats they are. It is at Glenn's Towing and Wrecking service 304-252-6287.
