1986 190d wont start

I had a couple issues getting the car started previously, but managed to get it going with ether. This time....nothing. Replaced the filters and still nothing. The top filter has fuel in it, but it seems like the car isn't getting fuel, but wants to start. Cracked the steel injection lines and nothing sprays out while cranking. Could it be the fuel sending unit in the tank or something electrical. It had been running fine until I changed the filters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Matt

Are you saying it wouldn't start so you tried changing the 2 fuel filters and now it still won't start?

Did you re-fill the canister style fuel filter before spinning it back on? If not, you will crank forever to get fuel again.

I would use WD-40 instead of either to avoid the potential of blowing a head gasket.

I had this issue randomly out of the blue 2 or 3 times in the past 2 months, but each time I resolved it with starting fluid and it ran fine afterwards. I filled the canister filter with fuel and have never had any issues after changing filters before. I know the engine is self priming....I almost wonder if something was going bad and finally took a crap. We spent at least 2 hours off and on trying to start it so I would think most of the air would be out of the line.
