Does monowiper assembly present any particular difficulty in replacing windshield?

Am getting windshield and gasket replaced today on my 92 300D. Got a great price ($159) from a well-regarded auto glass place. When I told this to my indie, he was surprised at the price, noting that the monowiper assembly creates some difficulties....but then thought perhaps there's a way to do it without removing the monowiper.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Thoughts and opinions, yes. Facts, no.

Never done it, but my guess is that to do a proper windshield replacement you should take off the wiper. It is certainly doable yourself if you are reasonably handy. It is also one of those jobs I think is better done by yourself with a gentler hand than a windshield tech with a fully charged impact gun or drill with drivers.

Wiper with motor and trans is removable as a whole, one of those jobs which, the first time you do it takes 3 times as long as the second time.

BTDT!

Your very best bet is to remove the mono wiper and leave it out while they change the windshield. I have done this a few times with great success and then let a glass guy convince me that he could do it without removing the wiper. He use a piece of thin plastic, sort of like the shell of an anti freeze jug as a shoe horn to slide the windshield in place.

I thought that it had worked well until I had to remove the wiper assembly. It was glued so solidly to the windshield that there was no way to get it out without breaking the windshield in the process.

Pull it before it goes to the glass shop OR pull it and have a mobile glass man come to your place.

Good luck with it.

It does not take much to remove the whole monowiper assembly. I strongly suggest you remove it yourself before the windshield guy does his thing.

The potential amount of damage (or hassle) is pretty high compared to the small cost of prevention.

I helped my BIL with this sort of situation, when i talked to the glass guy - he said the wiper will remain in place - SURE - RIGHT, then face your glued windshield to the wiper system, no thanks.

Once he was done, I put in the washed and clean weatherstripping in the channels with the help of liquid detergent.
