are w126 seats interchangeable?

I'm relatively new to the forum. Really impressed with the knowledge and expertise available here. I do have a question I haven't been able to find an answer to. Are the seats in the w126 interchangeable? For example can I take a 280 seat and put it into a 300sd? I'm not concerned about seat function as much as the seat brackets.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be compatible. It's my understanding that W126's retained common seat brackets through the entire duration of production. Someone who owns multiple cars of this body style would be able to confirm this, however.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. I'm sure you'll find yourself learning something new every time you're on here.

is the 280 a SE or SEL? then yes, if SEC, then likely not...

I hope this isn't a stupid question... but why not an SEL?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking about installing a Corbeau seat in a 300SD. Corbeau lists brackets for the 280 but no S, SE or SEL designation is given.

SEL is fine, same as SD, but the SEC is a coupe, and the seats are wider, and the mounts are different.

Hm, I wouldn't have guessed that the mounts are different. Good to know.

I have the interior from a 1991 350SDL (one of the rarest!!) in my '82 300SD. Only main issues were the memory front seats, I removed the memory modules and converted them back to non-memory, and my switches in the door lack head-rest adjustment provisons, so they can't be moved easily but with a lot of soldering the other functions all work great. Way more comfortable than '82 seats thats for sure.

Remove the plastic panels on the back of the front seats (2 screws along the bottom edge) and disengage the headrest riser drive cable. I think the cable just pulls out. There's probably enough stiffness in the headrest sliders to keep them where you set them.

Thumbs up

Careful chaps, they are not all direct swap due to the electronics on the bottom! 2nd Gen will not drop right into a 1st Gen.

My '85 has memory seats and the '87 seats I have are obviously memory too, yet all the wiring is different.
