Help! Transmission issue
Hey guys, I have tried searching for this but it is such a weird problem; I have a 1987 W124 300D Turbo, a few weeks ago one of the rear calipers froze and I changed it out, bled the breaks and everything seemed fine with that, although the brakes were a little softer than before.
A couple weeks after that, I was taking a left turn at a light, the light turned green and I let off the brake and pushed the pedal and nothing happened! I had a line of car behind me and I guess the car felt bad and very slowly, after keeping the pedal down for a little bit, decided to cross the street and die at the side of the road. I tried to put it in reverse, D, 2, 3, and nothing happens at all. The engine starts and shut down fine, what could cause this to happen after driving fine? Is it a vacuum issue or something internal in the transmission? I don't know where to start so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Pat

We need a little bit more information - are you saying you had to really give it some stick like 4000 rpm + to get the car to drive before it died?
If so it sounds to me like a pump problem. Have you got the correct amount of fluid in the transmission? Have you checked the linkages? (Just in case) What colour is the fluid? Does the fluid smell of smoke?

Thanks for the reply,
I checked the fluid and it is at the high mark, smells fine and is not an odd color, dark red. The linkage is fine, although one of the clips is broken, but it still shifts into the proper gear... When it happened I did have to rev it to about 4k to get it to move and it lasted about 100 yards and then finally died. Today it starts fine but still not shifting... So for the pump, drain, drop, and rebuild huh? Sounds like a fun project, what parts would I need? Anything else I should look at before? Does the vacuum have anything to do with putting it into drive or just with the shift points?

Do you hear any sound when trying to move the car?

if it is the output flange... I've got several transmissions that are parts donors... if it's not the output flange, I've got good transmissions...

Well, I got under the car today, and everything looks fine from the outside;
Output flanges are fine, the drive shaft spins freely with the rear wheels, All the linkage is okay and the car still works in park. I jacked up the rear wheels and started the car, put it in drive to see if it would spin the tires, when a buddy rev'd it up, the shaft looked like it wanted to turn but didn't spin the tires.... So I think the next step would be to drop the transmission? What could be the cause of this? And is it easier to just get a new transmission? Looks like i might be in the market for one (vstech, ill PM you once I drop it).... Any help would be appreciated, as money is tight on this job.

My vote would be to remove the transmission and see what you can see before buying a replacement.

Well, got the Transmission out, and what it looks like is the front pump, the tabs that the TC fit into seem to be broken off and there are small pieces of metal where they used to be, I will try to get pictures when I get it out. Is there anything else I should do besides change the front pump while I am in there? Not going to lie, I am trying to be cheap as possible. And I don't have any of the special tool to do a full rebuild.
Any help would be great! Thanks

B2 piston seal isn't seeping? Kickdown switch o-ring isn't seeping? Output shaft seal isn't seeping? Dipstick tube o-ring isn't seeping? Modulator cap is supple? Shift rod bushings are still in place? Front flex disks aren't cracked? Center bearing turns smoothly and quietly?
