We had very bad weather and strong wind had holes under the nylon, so my motor is all full of sand. I have to clean it with
water jet pressure. I have to remove oil pump and oil filter container. Is it difficult to do? Do i have to be careful about some details? And. As You may see on attached picture i have another problem. And it is just under the IP. So i have to remove it also. ( so.... i have to do think which has i more afraid of,...., but i had study the problem and i'm prepared) Ok my question is will it be sure enough if i just hit it with hammer to drive it back into the hole. I have no idea how this happened. And i had no water in motor because it was at peaces. So this should happened winter before this one and when engine was stand still and ice broke it out. So this could be the reason of my troubles. Why i had water loss and why the engine overheated. |

Friend has told me that small quantity of water can produce this damage, because ice proceed when it enlarges in all directions no mater if there is resistance or not.
Next question how to clock rings? |

I thought that IP is fixed only with the red screws. But it still holds the gear which is bolted to the green screw. I tried to unscrew it, but it behaves strangely.
How do you take IP down? Last edited by pr2501; 02-26-2012 at 04:57 AM. |

The fastener that you pointed to with green arrow is reverse threaded if I remember correctly.
There should be a bracket at the back of the IP that you will need to remove too.

I had took my IP down. And took it to maestro who could test the pump flow and increase it to have more power.
But again no luck. It has no adapter to connect my kind of IP to testing machine. (and i do not know if i will tray to make it or buy it somewhere or pray god to put it under my pillow) Then i went to Bosch professional IP office and before i could explain anything they have told me that it would cost me 200 euro. (some reparation what are necessary at 200 000 kilometers) I was so shocked that i have forgot to tell what i was coming for and i just said goodbye. So i will just clean engine and put anything back together. And about problem on pictures some post back: I had took a right diameter pipe and with a hammer have put the plug back in bed. It was quite hard, so I do not think anything will ever leakages. |

Could element on the picture be removed from the body?
Maybe i could use it to connect IP to IP testing machine. |

Now:
If injection pump is off then it's gear is free to move. How can i set motor together if the chain is not tight? |

Best you don't turn the cam or crank while the IP is off the chain. IP is usually removed and installed with crank at 15* ATDC #1. Cam is removed and installed with crank at TDC #1. This is important because the cam tower procedure requires the cam to be at TDC. There is risk of damaging the cam otherwise.

I had a problem putting it together.
1.I could not follow the Yours (Sixsto) instruction because if i had set ip and crank together, then when i have connected cam IP was out of seating. One tooth of cam gear are many ip teeth. 2.And when I had set cam and crank together at first, could not set IP then because could not mange to set right tooth of IP gear because chain even the tensioner was removed gave me troubles. So i had set crank and cam at 0 TDC for #1 and teh turned it on 15 ATDC and then i checked ip gear with three marks with relation to engine block. Then i removed tensioner,ip and cam gear to have chain free of tension so i could hold ip gear with one hand to be fixed at marked points and could insert IP with another hand.To fix ip to not tourn ( in that specific checking hole) i did not use any special tool but just simple 6 mm screw. The last was fine rotation of ip to have IP "checking tooth" in center of hole at 15* for ATDC #1. Maybe i will use next method after some time to check if IP is right set, but now i will enjoy driving around with friends. http://www.mail-archive.com/mercedes@okiebenz.com/msg04613.html And i have made special connection for turbo charger oil lubrication return on the top of oil container in case i rely decide to add turbo on my van. As i sad now i will enjoy riding and then will decide if will sell this engine and buy 2.9 TD or install turbo on this one. Sixto thank you, and all others to. Thank you.
Maybe i should write one warning. Be careful about ip seal between engine and ip. Because my engine is losing oil there.(i have saw it after 100 km) I have cleaned it and also seal bed. But maybe is necessary to set new in any case. Last edited by pr2501; 03-19-2012 at 04:38 AM. |
